Star Wars: Shadow Of The Empire was an amazing game that offered amazing imersion into the Star Wars galaxy, was great FPS, decent space combat game, and offered a bit of a sidestory to the existing story.Marfoo
Uh ... Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire was a very well-received game when it came out.

All of the essential, must-play games I would have mentioned are already covered, but there are a few honorable mentions that I haven't seen:

Super Bomberman 2 (strategy)

Bust-A-Move (puzzle)

Super Punch-Out!! (boxing [this one being the best])

Earthworm Jim (platform/action)

What are some of the best, lesser-known N64 games out there? I'm not talking about a Best of the Nintendo 64-type thread, I mean the games that were actually pretty good, but garnered less attention.

I'm thinking something along the lines of Blast Corps or Bomberman 64. Tell me of some good N64 games that I may not know about.

I really wished that Capcom would have done the same for Mega Man X2 and Mega Man X3 as they did for Mega Man X in 'Maverick Hunter X,' but all this time later it has become clear that they aren't, and never planned to.

When someone told me that "Gaia" is one of the possible names for the world in FFVII (judging from "Gaia's Cliff"), I remembered that wasn't there also a "Gaia's Cliff" in another Final Fantasy game? Was it FFVI? And then I remembered that "Gaia" was the official name of the world in either FFVIII, FFIX, FFX, FFXI, or FFXII.

Well, that got me thinking: since there's such a consistent similarity in the world's of each Final Fantasy game no matter which ambiguous time period each game is set in (sharing similar names of many different things), wouldn't it be neat if each installment in the series was a different period in the timeline of the same world (Gaia), and that all the characters of each game were not set in separate worlds with separate histories, but in fact, they all actually existed in the same reality? It kind of feels that way in the games, too.

If that were true, what would the chronological order of each installment be in juxtaposition with the world's history? Well, FFVII, FFVIII and FFXIII would definitely be at the end (with futuristic settings), and games like the original Final Fantasybe in the distant past.

It would be really cool if this were to be made official with a future installment!

I hope it happens sooner than later. Have yet to play FFVI, but I hear it's one of the best.

yokofox33
Oh, it is! Much better than FF7! Why do I keep running into people who've heard about it, but never played it? Get it on Final Fantasy Anthology for the PS1! Or, you can get the superior (gameplay-wise that is) FFVI Advance for the GBA with the crappy translation .... you know what!? Don't get the GBA FFVI!

[QUOTE="DarkCatalyst"][QUOTE="Oilers99"] Really? What's a V remake going to give that the GBA version hasn't already?Oilers99
Depends on what extras they throw in, but you know, that can be said for ANY remake.

All right. I suppose they could go crazy and add a number of improvements and new classes, but I think there's more that can be done with a remake of VI or VII. VI has this sort of ensemble cast that could benefit from a more visual style of storytelling (a more immediate sense of character), and VII desperately needs a better translation. And a deeper combat system, though I don't see that happening.

Interesting that you should mention that, because I'm playing Final Fantasy VII right now, and some lines just don't make any sense at all; and the battle system has me awe-struck with it's downgraded simplicity! This is supposed to come AFTER VI in a time when games become more complex (not that that is all that big of a deal), and yet the battles are as simplistic as the first Final Fantasy! I always have been a staunch defender of simplicity in games when people try to tell me it's better to waste 50+ hours learning how a game works when they can spend their time doing something worthwhile like learning a new language, or using a computer program, or how to fly a God damn plane; but these fights have been so simple that they're boring. FFVI actually had a more layered combat system than this so-called "greatest game of all time."

Also, the Final Fantasy VI characters were much more interesting and likable than these anime, cookie-cutter douchebags! They remind me of how I responded to the characters in Chrono Trigger, in which I couldn't really get myself too involved in them, but could get more aquainted with them as the game went on like an acquired taste in food (BLEAH ... mmm ... okay, not bad). They're likeable at best, but they're not that great of characters. As a matter of fact, playing Chrono Trigger a few more times over, and playing Chrono Cross has now endeared me to the Chrono Trigger cast more than before, and I actually like THEM more than the Final Fantasy VII cast. Of course, I DO have a lot more of FF7 to go, but I just want to dismiss it every opportunity I get because I'm so repulsed by its fanatical, biased, ignorant fan base.

I wonder if they're going to keep running through the old-school Final Fantasy games one at a time to remake. By the time they get to the PS1 titles, the portables might be powerful enough to offer significant visual upgrades to what they look like now. I do wonder if they really have much incentive to remake Final Fantasy V, though. America already has a version, and it's not one of the titles that has a lot of people attached to the characters, and would like to see them in a higher fidelity.Oilers99

Quite true. Especially since they killed-off the most likable character in the game half-way through, and stuck you with a party of little girls performing men's jobs. That really stuck in my throat.

You know, as a matter of fact, I think if they overhauled FF5 on the DS, it would make a pretty fun game. It's got the 'job system' from FF3, and we know how fun that game was. You also get to be a Samurai, and Samurais are cool.

BUT ... I'd prefer to leap over it if it gets me to FF6 quicker. We need to hurry up and get a FF6 DS to show up those God damned FF7 fanboys, and teach them that FF6 is the best FF story; because having the 3D graphics will be the only way you can get those turdmuffins to pay attention to it.
