Heh, heh, heh. The RetroN 3. I bought mine without the assistance of my girlfriend, and mine finally came in the mail yesterday. I have it still wrapped up in its box and packaging, and today I take it out, and hook it up. I am so stoked.

Good choice.

Emerald_Warrior did a bang-up job mentioning must-have titles, and the guy after him did a great job amending the RPGs he omitted from the SNES (guess he's not an RPG fan), but there are still a few awesome titles none of you have mentioned.

NES:

The Adventures of Lolo 1-3

Archon

Double Dragon II: The Revenge

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!

Shadowgate

SNES:

Super Bomberman 2

Super Double Dragon

Super Mario Kart

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

And Emerald Weapon's selection of Sega Genesis titles is unbeatable. Sure, there's still dozens of great games for each console, especially the Genesis, but as far as the essential ones go, his can't be beat, exceeeeept ...

Genesis:

Toejam & Earl

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Without it, FF7 would not have been what it is; and FF7 owes a lot to a few Squaresoft games that came before it: notably Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, and Final Fantasy IV.

And funny enough, every title mentioned here is better than FF7.

I got bored, and frustrated, playing the game, and I am NOT one of the people that disliked it.

The reason is because the game's battle system, and rules in general, are COMPLEX AS FUDGE! I mean, JESUS! There's a book in itself all about how the battle system works. There is so much depth in it, and in the story, too. I've heard it's a short game, but has more depth than most JRPGs that span four discs, and I've found this to be pretty true so far.

I am STILL trying to figure out how to play the game, though, even though I've had the game since 2007, and have yet to really move far past the dragon boss. I've had to come back to the game on repeated occaisions, because I stop at a point, and don't come back until way too late for me to even still be involved in the story. The last time I played, I had the most fun -- a LOT of fun -- and the game, even thought it's short, and I haven't done much with it in YEARS, I still hold cherished memories of the game.

Anyway, yeah. Once I learn it, I'm going to love it. I mean to go back to that game. It was worth every penny to find that rare gem in near mint condition at that outstanding game store that closed down. It's definitely a deep game, with a compelling, mature story, and all of your complaints are very feeble, baseless, and misinformed. It's definitely not a game for your average Joe Gamer who really isn't too bright, and can't really appreciate true gaming art; and you don't really sound like you'd enjoy this game -- so yeah, I'd "steer clear of it."

One of Sqix's best games, hands-down, no doubt.

I just bought panzer dragoon saga.

At first I was going to stop playing with the grainy graphics but after a while the game became immensly fun.
If you can find it then buy it..

Man, good luck trying to find GOOD games at a decent price. Most of the games listed here are hard to find in used game stores and very expensive if you go on ebay. By the way, now would be a good time for someone to prove me wrong and point me in the right direction to add Saturn games to my collection.

I know exactly what you mean. I picked up a Dreamcast, too, the week prior, and I'll have the exact same problem with that one, too. I just have a bad feeling about my success finding games for the console since they're all so damn rare. Maybe I'll have to seek out emulators. I'll try, though.

[QUOTE="spawnassasin"]

i remember my uncle used to play D on that thing all the time

KillerJuan77

It's a pretty flawed game, but it's fairly interesting.

Also, first, get an Action Replay 4M Auto Plus, it works as a Memory Card, as a cheating device (Or to have red blood on The House Of The Dead XD), an import loader (Your Saturn will be region free) and a 4MB RAM cartridge. You can get one here: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-k8-49-en-70-1b2.html

Then, get this games:

- Virtua Fighter 2 (It may look bad nowadays but it's an incredibly deep game)

- Nights Into Dreams (Get it with a 3D controller)

- The House Of The Dead (The US version is rare, but you can get the japanese version for 10-20 bucks including shipping and it's almost completely in english)

- Dragon Force (Pretty rare too, but it's fairly good)

- Panzer Dragoon I & II (Truly amazing rail shooters)

- Panzer Dragoon Saga (Quite possibly the greatest Sega Saturn game ever made and on the best RPG's in gaming history and it's also one of the most rare games of all time, but if you can find it for 160-200 dollars then get it, it's magnificent and I doubt that we'll ever see a re-release or a port)

- Exodus (Fairly decent FPS with some of the best looking graphics on the Saturn, it's a PAL exclusive, but it's great and it's pretty cheap too)

- Enemy Zero (Many people hated it due to it's difficulty and learning curve, but it's really good and it's pretty cheap too, unless you want the US version which is the same as the japanese one, a truly unique game with a fantastic sound design and Fumito Ueda, the director of Ico and SotC was an animator on the game)

- X-Men: Children Of The Atom (Fantastic fighting game, it's not rare, it's not super cheap either, but it's really good, smooth and shows the Saturn's fantastic 2-D processing)

- Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter (A japan exclusive, but it's not that expensive or complex so it's fairly import friendly, I love this game, the graphics are amazing, the fighting system is perfect IMO and it shows the power of the Saturn combined with the 4MB RAM)

Those are some decent choices for your Saturn.

Hey -- THANKS, man! That info is GREATLY appreciated! I'm no stranger to console modding, but even I didn't know about that AMAZING accessory! I just bought an S-video cable from Play-Asia this morning, and signed up for an account there, so that's perfect! I was getting worried about having to buy a memory card, but that's just too awesome.

3D controller? Whuuuuu?!

Don't you have to have the light gun to play House of the Dead? I'd definitely pick it up, because that game is nostalgia for me. I remember it from the arcades.

As far as Panzer Dragoon Saga goes -- wow, yeah -- I'd LOVE to get that game (being the most coveted of them all), but I'm afraid I'll never the physical game as long as I live. I'm also not planning on spending that much money on even a great, old, rare ****c like that -- I love retro gaming, but I'm not crazy. I've got to be reasonable with my hobby's fund, and I just see no way of ever coming across an affordable copy. It's the same with Valkyrie Profile. It's an awesome RPG I'll never get a hold of.

I think I'd rather pick up Marvel Superheroes rather than X-Men Vs. Street Fighter, or Marvel Superheroes Vs. Street Fighter; but I DO love the Capcom fighting games.

I'd like to take advantage of the Saturn's 2D swan-song games, and get Guardian Heroes. I hope I do.

congrats, its a great system to have , what games did you get for it?

Darkman2007

So far, I only own X-Men: Children of the Atom, which I actually bought at a really cool old game store back in 2007, which comes with the case, and manual, in near mint condition.

I actually tested the game last night, and it really is noticeably superior to the shoddy PS1 conversion I owned before. The difference is like SNES Mortal Kombat II compared to Genesis Mortal Kombat II.

This ...... thread has increased since I was last here, and failed to submit a reply due to GameSpot's terrible message board functionality. I want to reply to so much, but I can't do it in one post, because it always says my HTML is fudged up, when I know it isn't.

You know what? It's pretty coincidental that you should mention that title. When I looked to see what Saturn games my local used book store was selling with the console where I bought it, there was only one intriguing-looking game there, and it was D. I was thinking about getting it, but I didn't have a lot of info to go on. It might be a cult ****c, or an obscure gem, or it might also be a steaming pile; so I waited until I could get home, and look it up. I actually forgot all about it. Thanks.

NOTE: Since the time I first wrote this, I have bought D. I haven't played it yet.
