Honestly, Hades doesn't really evolve the RogueLITE genre that much, it just excecutes it well. The story going on between runs is of course the game's main selling point, but on the surface of it that doesn't really feel much different to any story driven game with a populated HUB. Diablo II (LoD) had a decently dynamic story using it's various hubs to good effect (act 4 excluded), and the same can be said of Bastion.
Hades doesn't really do anything incredible with it's LITE aspects either, the metaprogression is fine (if a bit drawn out, taking almost 100 hours of gameplay to level more than two aspects of each weapon fully), there's no legacy elements and while the narrative details are impressive the main story is pretty poorly paced.
Hades' greatest accomplishment is showing just how much detail (and dialogue) can be put into the presentation of a story. As a side effect of that, reminding us that a roguelite can be strongly story focused is a really good thing that I hope more developers try out (though I'd also hope they don't stretch their stories over quite so many, many hours of (stellar mind you) gameplay).
@m4a5: And everyone (should) understand the term Roguelite as meaning taking inspiration from old-school roguelike design while foregoing true permadeath for metaprogression in terms of unlockable gameplay mechanics/powerups/difficulties and/or legacy elements. Hades has no true legacy element (which I think is a shame honestly), but the game is driven by it's metaprogression entirely. Whether mechanical powerups, alternate gameplay styles, difficulty or story, or all 4 at the same time.
Death in a true roguelike means starting from actual scratch, death in a roguelite is a minor setback at worst and often lets you carry some acquired power forward (legacy) or engage in metaprogression before trying again.
And in both cases, those are the defining traits of both tangentially related genres.
The only ways BotW even relates to Ocarina of Time is in superficial and hollow ways. When it comes to gameplay and genre it shares nothing with the rest of the franchise.
