I really don't take issue with the fact they wanted to go a fictional route. That said, I suppose I do appreciate when or if a developer can create a world that's set in a real place and it allows me to learn or motivates me to learn about a specific place. I don't really walk around life wondering about what Bolivia is like, but with the Wildlands, I researched a bit about it because I wanted to know what the real place was like that I was playing in, and I sometimes just don't trust games to give me a good depiction.
I'm a huge fan of sci-fi, but maybe I have to rewatch it because Event Horizon just didn't do it for me. I love Dead Space and so when the game creator of that said Event Horizon was a huge inspiration I had to watch it. To me, the quality of that film, as a film, is not nearly as good as Dead Space is as a video game. Alien/Aliens is more akin to it in my opinion in terms of quality and to a degree, atmosphere albeit without the mind tricks aspect of the story. If it ever comes to 4k Blu-ray maybe I'll pick it up and rewatch it.
I don't feel like the developers are making this as a cash grab type of game, but it kind of feels like that kind of product, if you know what I mean. You know? Like, it's perhaps not up to the high-quality standards of what they've made before in the ways that matter. I could be wrong. I'm cautiously... curious? Optimistic is too strong a word. It kind of seems like one of those 'hopefully you love coming back again and again for co-op play because we think it's short but sweet! Oh, story? Eh, it's there but it's taking a backseat.'
Hmm. I like Kosinski's movies! Well, I only know about Tron and Oblivion but both are great in my opinion so I'm a little more excited about this. Top Gun is a fine movie; the theme song and intro is awesome.
Edit - Watched the trailer and looked the movie up on Google to see who's part of it. I'm more excited now. It was really cool to hear the theme song in the trailer. I like the cast that's in the film, and Harold Faltermeyer with Hans Zimmer composing is very cool. I rarely see films in theaters these days, but this may be one of them. Oh, and Val Kilmer is back as Ice? That's interesting.
Wish we got Alien: Isolation 2 or something. The first is one of my favorite games this generation and is right alongside Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay as one of the best games based off a film franchise in my opinion. It's still a game I play from time to time; I just wish it was enhanced on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
