Upon seeing the name "Hokkaido", I was instantly reminded of the private retreat mission in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Such an incredible level that was chockful of atmospheric tension and opportunities for experimentation.
Really digging the pilot-robot bond that was hinted at in the trailer. Getting some Tetsujin 28-go vibes out of it, and makes me yearn for another Shogo: Mobile Armor Division (whose praises I sang in the past via the linked article). Frankly, if we could get another game like that in the same vein as the Doom and Shadow Warrior reboots, you’d have the perfect FPS.
I kinda regret missing the original Titanfall back in 2014. As a fan of anything mecha (the amazing anime FPS Shogo: Mobile Armor Division remains one of my favorite titles ever), I'm sincerely looking forward to getting my hands on the sequel and rectifying my 2-year old mistake.
My favorite game from the last 20 years is, without a shadow of a doubt, TimeSplitters: Future Perfect.
This is the game that introduced me to the FPS genre and made me a shooter aficionado for life. Everything from the colorful characters to the wacky assortment of weapons and multiplayer mods help make this underrated gem of a game indelibly enjoyable and endearing.
It's a shame that we will probably never get another TimeSplitters game, but I sincerely hope that another developer will take inspiration for it and breathe new life into the FPS genre.
