Point #2: Having extra skills is nice, but they aren't worth a stat drop and subsequent grinding. Just make the enemies tougher to compensate.

The idea is to have as little reclassing as possible ;) But perhaps a total stat reset would be too harsh. Instead the stats could go like this (Class Mimimum+Current Stats)/2. The exception to this is of course promotions. This should mean that they will be weak after a class reset, but will have powerful skills from their other class(es) and you will be able to level them up fast.

Bow Knights and archers in general were pretty good in the good fire emblems though.

The problem I have with reclassing is that it resets a characters level but does not reset the stats, which means that everyone can hit their caps on every stat. If what you suggest ensures that everyone wont cap everything, then I might be fine iwth it.

Would be great if we could choose our protagonist's class too instead of starting as some generic swordsman. The closer my avatar is to Hector, the better.

@charizard1605: That actually works.

In Japan, the new Fire Emblem game has the subtitle if. Does that sound familiar?

Which eventually spun into Persona.

They should not have a total character level

I'm not sure if you mean to remove the level cap for Tier 2 units (which wouldn't be a bad idea) or to remove the internal character level cap when experience gains are already slow at that point.

stats should reset after each reclass to character defaults for tier 1 classes and roughly halfway through the cap of the tier 1 class for a tier 2 class.

What, exactly, would stat resets accomplish?

Each character should only have 2 tier 1 classes instead of 3. That would give each character a bit more identity.

Two feels...inconsistent. Much like how you get two options when promoting, re-classing should give two options to avoid feeling linear.

Now, if you want to solidify roles, perhaps you shouldn't allow re-classing but sub-classing instead and have it hard-locked.

Remove The internal character level cap system. Because eventually everything will give only 4 exp even at only levle 1, making for a really grindy and tedious experience.

Stat resets would accomplish that reclassing would no longer quickly lead to you quickly building OP characters by abusing class resets.

Subclassing wouldnt work with Fire Emblem's current ruleset. Reclassing at least makes sense with the rules. And with 2 choices, that would mean 2 choices at at tier 1, and 2 choices for both of those choices.

@ReadingRainbow4: Literally two generations later. Game Freak has some of the industry's worst writers and their constant lore whoring and one upping of themselves wrote themselves into a corner early.

Honestly, I think that's quite the understatement.

Worst writers in the industry honor still belongs to BioWare though.

The second seal mechanic of Fire Emblem Awakening was so badly implemented.

They should not have a total character level, and stats should reset after each reclass to character defaults for tier 1 classes and roughly halfway through the cap of the tier 1 class for a tier 2 class. Each character should only have 2 tier 1 classes instead of 3. That would give each character a bit more identity.

Wizardry handled reclassing so much better than FE:A.

A PC release would be a pretty good move.

Afterall, japanese life sims and dating sims are both thriving on PC compared to other platforms.

How exactly is this turn based?

I assume it takes place in turns.

I tried the game, combat uses turns. So yes, it is turn based. The rest is real time.

Overall, the game feels like the predator sections (the good parts, because the brawler bits were utter dogshit) of Arkham Asylum.

New Guild Wars 2 expansion announced. It actually tackles a few things I mentioned before,

Wake me up when

  • it has Combat that is not "everyone is a dps" (Specializations may have fixed this one, but not sure yet. Rifle using thieves is cool though, now medium armor gear so I can look like a scout from Valkyria Chronicles)
  • it has Guild Halls
  • PvP modes that is something other than conquest
  • PvP with any resembelence of balance
  • PvP has some freakin' variety
  • PvP is actually about skills rather than cheese
  • asuras dont dominate the PvP scene do to their lack of height.
  • WvW is something other than a shitty zerg
  • WvW comes anywhere close to the quality of Dark Age of Camelot
  • they have some decent customizability of the UI
  • PvE actually offers decent rewards
  • they dont punish you for doing the only thing you can do in PvE, Grind.
  • they design decent dungeons and boss fights (Possibly fixed, wait and see in this regard, but should be better than launch dungeons seeing as the launch dungeons were really crappy)
  • rewards dont come from RNG
  • they actually come close to putting out content at a rate that is equal to or rivals any other mmorpg during the same timeframe
  • better doesnt mean uglier, exotic weapons in GW2 almost always look too tryhard
  • you dont have to pay to access content that you cannot access because you didnt log in on the right week
  • combat isnt excessively spammy
  • they remove the Mary Salad race from the game, retcon preferably and fire whoever came up with that sad excuse for a race

Still not enough though
