@Gelugon_baat @AJAM1 He probably means they could have evolved it into something else besides top-down. Funny I expect to see you in these discussions even though you declare you refuse to purchase or play a game for one reason or another. You turn gaming into politics, not just strict opinion about things you find interesting.

It's still a top-down RPG with simplified controls and no controller support where other RPG have evolved to 3rd person 3D. I have to say after the beta weekend I enjoyed myself and found the atomosphere and tone of the story to be awesome. It being so simple, even after purchasing the game, I don't know that I would ever get into PvP, but co-op might be fun with the right people. The guys I played with just ran ahead rushing through the levels so I kind of coasted through doing nothing and everything went by really quick. Other than playing the co-op like I would Left 4 Dead or Alien Swarm, the only reason I'd be playing this is for the story. I was impressed enough by the presentation I'd like to give it a try, but I wish it was $30. I'm going to compare this to other games like Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, to see if it's nearly as fun with the focus being solely on action with no puzzles or platforming. I'm almost certain I'll finish this, think it's cool and wonder why they didn't allow over-the-shoulder perspective, why they limited the zoom options, and why they decided to refine instead of improve.

Honestly, after much consideration, if you DO compare used games to used cars. One car equals one driver. If the driver sells his car and buys a new one, that's a plus for him and the dealership. Him buying a new car is good for the manufacturer, so the manufacturer has incentive to sell a new car including not making cars last as long. You don't want someone to sell a game, either make it worth it for them to keep it or make it attractive to buy a new one every year. Publishers really aren't making it attractive to buy new. I've actively avoided buying Saint's Row 3 purely because I heard of their long-term DLC plan. Maybe it is just add-on content, but it feels like the game isn't complete. Maybe it feels like they should just allow you to mod. There are certain games that feel like expansion packs or DLC is made for--just using an example--a game like Halo 2 (even though I don't like it) where you were allowed to play different races and you would like the story more fleshed out or a Warhammer 40k type game that already has rich lore and a full campaign, but you'd like additional campaigns or playable races. Max Payne is a single campaign game that shouldn't have multiplayer tacked on. We like Max, but it's not like the character isn't so generic that if they couldn't string his story along further, they could just make another character or world just like the other one ala Zelda (even though they claim it's in the same universe).

If it were like the other Bethesda games, but with multiplayer like Diablo, it could be good where you're living in another player's world and your character would just take the place of another stand in character. MMORPGs suck in my opinion, just never got into them. I've been on a recent kick on playing PC only games, RTSes and such--caught the Diablo 3 beta weekend--Diablo 3's multiplayer is as far as multiplayer RPGs should have gone mainstream. There should only be like 5 or less MMOs out right now, the rest should have multiplayer elements. I'm oddly psyched about Diablo 3, even though it should be a 3rd person game, but a type of game like Elder Scrolls that I do love, I'm not psyched about having as an MMO.

Portal did have an awesome ending. Too bad Portal 2 didn't have the "it" factor--it was better, but perhaps too much. Portal was better as a simple game with no sequel or forced humor.

Alan Wake? Awesome game. I wouldn't mind if more games were challenging mainly due to the limitations of the characters, but it ends up being childish making your character too weak. I'd imagine it would be like in the NES days where we used to rage about games and throw the controller because the main reason you'd be loosing were the poor controls you had to learn to deal with, not true difficulty. If I'm doing the aiming, I should have the option of being accurate and in real life if when someone is trying to hurt you it makes it easier to dodge as well, so Alan Wake is about as weak as I'll except. He dies easy enough and you have the added benefit of continues which you don't have in real life.

@james_324 Perfect config, just get a cheaper mobo and power supply and you're set. One example of a under $400 rig that would max BF3. I don't even currently have an optical drive in my PC. I install Windows via a thumb drive.

I pre-like and Google+ this thing before I read it. Big mistake. Either this is an advertisement piece from Intel/Nvidia/respective component manufacturers, an irresponsible heavy-handed spender, or just flat out overkill for BF3. Just follow the recommended specs and you'll be fine. You can likely put the PC that will run BF3 together butter smooth for Less than \\$300-400 if you already have the monitor or hook it up to a TV. 5770, 5850, 5870 are the cards that will play this very well. A \\$200 graphics card. If your PC already meets the minimum beside graphics cards, you might need to upgrade your power supply, then get a 5850/70. Mostly Ultra or all Ultra. Any 3 or 4-core processor would do as long as it's 3+ghz range. i7? I had to force myself to keep reading after that. Only overkill I agree on is an SSD if you want faster loading times, but they aren't bad with a mechanical hd. Why I keep mistakenly thinking these articles are trying to bring back PC gaming? If they told people how cheap and easy it is to put together a rig capable of doing graphics like BF3, PC would be back in business in no time. Epic and Nvidia should work on something to get console-like performance at least out of the graphics cards for Unreal 4. For instance, a samaritan demo maxed out on a single 580 isn't scary. It might be costly, but other cards could run it toned down, and after a few years it could be run on a \$200 card.
