They way they portrayed Samus in Other M really wasn't much different from Metroid Fusion. The only two games in the Metroid franchise where Samus even had any character...

Disagree.
Fusion: Samus is a head-strong (almost arrogant), powerful woman who doesn't take s*** from anyone, and questions authority at ANY chance she gets. She is independent and only is taking orders from the Federation because it serves her best interests at that point (they saved her life and gave her a new ship)... but she normally doesn't enjoy taking them from anyone. She doesn't even hesitate to do what her personal morals tell her is right despite her orders.
Other M: A naive, weak woman who is doing her best to suck up to Adam, an absentee-father figure (no hint at anything romantic in the game at all). Takes his authority as gospel and would never contradict him lest she upset him.
Yeah, "wasn't much different" at all.
I would have loved a much colder more jaded Samus at the beginning of Other M. In that she doesn't think she need any help from anyone and can handle any situation. That way they could have set up situation that turned the Samus we know from the previous games to something more human.
Instead of having a really weak girl turning slightly more confident at the end of Other M they could have had a cold-hearted, jaded, mercenary realise that showing a feeling now and then doesn't necessary show weakness and trusting a person or two doesn't hurt.
While I haven't played it, they seemed to do a pretty good job in devaluing Samus's character on a large scale. Which as far as I am concerned is damn depressing for video games.skrat_01
I know that I'm going to come of as really racist but there was a lot of talk that they made her much weaker to appeal more to the Japanese market. Apparently Japanese men are afraid(couldn't think of a better word, maybe offended would be better) of strong women.
Take the example that in every other Metroid game she is a very tall woman but in Other M she is much shorter than all the men around her.
No, I'm tired of the elitist snobs complaining about "ruining my character"... news flash it's nintendo's, and they can do whatever they want with it.lbjkurono23
They won't get another $50 for Other M 2 from me that's for sure.
This has nothing to do with being an elitist snob.
I get the horrible feeling Nintendo will be using solid state media as the primary format for this thing...charizard1605
I don't know what that really is.
Why would it be bad?
[QUOTE="JLF1"]so that would make the original DS the gameboy and the dsi the gameboy color? (although it didn't really add anything as useful as color)I'm gettng really excited of all this. With the 3DS and N6 turning into really interesting things it feels like N64 and GBA all over again. Which from my perspective is very high praise with those being my favourite Nintendo systems of all time.

It's highly superior to SMG.
[QUOTE="Swift_Boss_A"]Current gen systems are extremely maxed out. Rage will be the best thing any console will be able to produce. BF3 will make the gap even clearer. It's time to move on. And yes Nintendo has been about raw power, SNES, N64, GCN all pretty powerful consoles. Wii broke the mould.Sucks that Nintendo is bringing a new gen soon, I hope Sony or MS doesn't respond to it because there is still a lot that can be achieved on current gen systems. Hopefully the new Nintendo system will not be more powerful than the current consoles. Nintendo have never been about raw hardware specs, and I am also sure it will not be as innovative as the Wii, what I mean is it wont have an effect the Wii had because I guess people are used to it. No new control scheme Nintendo adds will top the departure the Wii had from the Gamecube. I think Nintendo is going to play it safe and try to get 3rd party devs on board for core titles the PS3 and 360 have been enjoying all this time, Im betting it will be as powerful as said systems with some perk or something to differentiate it.

It doesn't really work like that though. You don't move on to a new console simply because you can't make technically better games. You move on because you don't sell anymore in this gen.
Software sales are basically everything.
