For those who care to know, Star Citizen is already out, if you're a backer you can play right now. It will never have a traditional release, as in "it's all done come and play it on X date", it's just going to continue to grow with quarterly patches for the entire life span of the game be that 5, 10 or 20 years. The absolute closest it will come to a release is when they patch in full persistence, right now they wipe progression with each patch.
Squadron 42 (cinematic single player game) will have a traditional release. This will be an expansive 50 hour or so game with branching story lines. Things like how you interact with other crew members and mission results will determine how the game plays out. Even failing a mission (providing you didn't die) will not result in a "game over" screen, it'll just change the flow of the story. This part is due to go in to Beta Q2 2020 with a release likely Q3 or Q4. Personally I can see it releasing October 10th 2020 to coincide with the original announcement in October 10th 2012.
There are roadmaps to show what stage and what's coming on the RSI website
@NTenseify: If I was hating wouldn't I be saying to @Dragerdeifrit to not buy the game under any circumstances, or perhaps to just pirate it. Instead of giving a friendly warning about being cautious when it comes to dealing with the Epic store and Ten Cent?
As for the likes of Google (Youtube is Google) I use a VPN and an anonymous email address, so they will not have much of information of mine to sell.
@NTenseify: Have a look at the 80 million accounts leaked by Epic a couple of weeks ago and it's not the first time either. Then chuck in Ten Cent, like most (if not all) Chinese companies they are part owned by the state. Do you think the Chinese state does not extract user data from their companies?
Facts are sometimes scary but that doesn't mean you should ignore them or bury your head in the sand because you think it's just hate.
@Dragerdeifrit: If you're on console then have a great time with the game. If you're on PC be very wary of giving any information, especially financial information to Epic. Their security is crap and what doesn't get leaked will likely become the property of the Chinese government.
@Vodoo: I do agree that the playing field should be level. On PC you can be pretty sure that everyone is playing with a mouse and keyboard, if they don't it's their choice to be limited. On console it the other way round where the players would be paying for an advantage, which can be substantial.
Having said that, there's nothing wrong with consoles having keyboard and mouse functionality but I think I would limit it's use in competitive, especially, reaction based games.
"Of course, you don't have to use the built-in mouse pad, but it's your only realistic option when the Turret is used as a lapboard in a living room-type setting."
What are you babbling about? There are dozens of lap boards out there from a plane wooden board to expensive ergonomic padded things. Just because you're using a keyboard with slide out mouse pad doesn't mean you have to use it that way.
