I expected more than three articles. I am absolutely dumbfounded that Ocarina of Time is not here. Although I appreciate opinions as to what one's favorite game is, to me, it seems like all Gamespot wants to do is "be different." Lame.
I don't care what anyone says, The Adventure of Link was NOT a blemish. It was a great game, and compared to the rest of the games in the series is actually quite a refreshing departure from what has become the norm. When I was a child and saw the first screenshots, I admit I was disappointed that it "looked like Mario." But when the game came out and I actually played it, I absolutely loved it. I believe the differences we see in a game like The Adventure of Link compared to the rest of the games in the series are the kind of changes we need to see from future Zelda games. I'm not saying the next Zelda should play like Zelda II, but I want to see some different concepts appear in the games so it's not the same old same old. Skyward Sword is a decent start, but I think Nintendo should not be afraid to combine genres and gameplay styles, not to mention setting. I for one, would love to see a Zelda game with a slightly sci-fi tone.
@WolfGrey: You're argument about Nintendo always being outclassed by other systems is completely irrelevant and quite frankly wrong. Just because something has superior capabilities does not mean it is going to hold or carry the market. The Wii has still sold more units than any other console this generation (I am personally not saying it is the best console by any means), and the Super Nintendo was the absolute clear winner of that generation of consoles. Oh, and your comment about the PS2 having superior capabilties over the Gamecube is also wrong. The Gamecube had far better graphical effects than the PS2, not to mention better internal hardware. Small discs don't mean squat, either, as many games were released on multiple discs. Sony had a huge install base on the PS2, and the third party developers chose to develop more games for it. It's easy to see why Sony won that generation. You need to get your facts straight, but you obviously don't care because all you are doing is spouting off Sony fanboyism.
Can you say cash in? It will be really hard for Sony to follow up on the success of the Wii. As many people as I hear complain about the Wii I have a hard time seeing people actually supporting this. Old people and girlfriends already have a Wii or already know about it. Why buy or support anything else? This certainly can't be for the hardcore gamers. This move by Sony at this time seems puzzling to me. I also don't see at this time how it will add anything to what Nintendo has done except for HD graphics.
Uematsu is a genius. I love his compositions. I personally believe there is no better video game music composer out there, and I have many good memories associated with the music he has created. The Black Mages are an excellent progressive rock band as well. Hearing classic Final Fantasy tunes in a rock and roll format is quite a treat in my book. I look forward to hearing anything he does in the future. Great video, but dang that abridged discography list is short by a long shot. The man is responsible for tons more music. I would much rather have seen the unabridged list, no matter how long it was.
This is interesting. I absolutely agree that video game addiction is real. For many people, games satisfy a need. Whether that is a need to be accepted in some sort of social capacity, a need to overcome obsticles and feel success (through mastering a game), or even an escape from reality. Some people read to relax, some people drink or even do drugs to relax, some people play video games to relax. I'm not saying in and of those examples are positive signs of addiction, but it's something to think about as a means of escape. And any time any of these things take precedence over doing things in life that need to be done, or hurt someone else (resonably), a problem has arisen, and is a positive sign of addiction. Great article. I look forward to Part Two.
Should have been standard to begin with, but I am glad rumble is now supported. Good thing I never bought any controllers, though. Even still, If I want 4 Dual Shocks I will have to drop over 205 bucks. I think I'll just stick with one for now.
