@klugenbeel I remember launch problems with every WoW expac. The bigger they are, the harder they fall. But then they get up, and guess what, they're still big. /shrug
I'm not sure I want to learn how to play as a hardcore character, since you'll be discouraged from experimenting. But Hardcore is tempting for all the reasons mentioned. I'm sure I'll make a HC character soon enough. The experience of playing in a demon infested world can only be enhanced by the genuine fear of death.
Speaking on behalf of all-powerful superhumans everywhere, I have to agree with Jessica. The example of Half-life is particularly apt. While it may be said that it would have been one of the best games ever even if Gordon Freeman were somehow "enhanced" in some supernatural (the HEV suit doesn't really count, does it?) manner, the story still seems better BECAUSE he's ordinary. I agree with those who point out the obvious fact that the "everyman", to the extent s/he is like us, is boring. But the storytelling art, from the Homer to George Lucas, is always served best by putting ordinary characters in extraordinary circumstances, rather than the other way around.
Looks like a great game for a pimply 14 year old who gets picked on at school all day and feels better smashing virtual stuff in a completely safe environment; like wuss therapy or something. I'll pass.
