Well for recent times there's the two chechen wars, the south ossetia war and the afghan war. Though the afghan war ended like 22 years ago.

Oh well China can't beat the US.. they have a large army but they don't have the logistics to invade a foreign country so far away.. especially one that's only accessible by sea.
