Having run communities outside of GameSpot, I respect the responsibility on leadership to keep a community thriving. Ultimately, you have two one-time options:

1. Post a topic in your union with a link to where active members can find the new home for the union.

2. Update your graphic/link in your sig for your union with the external site.

PM blasts to the membership of your union announcing a relocation is NOT appropriate. Everybody who uses the unions and forums on GameSpot has agreed to abide by the ToS. Despite some opinions of the rules unnecessarily complicating the process of communicating a union move, you each agreed to avoid the following behavior, as defined in the ToS:

Advertising - Messages that clearly advertise a service or product are not allowed. This includes, but is not limited to: unsolicited commercial or personal web site advertisements; "For-Sale/For-Trade/For-Auction/Wanted" notices; "Make Money Fast" scams, chain letters, and pyramid schemes; or any referrer-ID based sites (including both games and free-item marketing sites). Users are allowed to include their web site address in a signature, request comments on their personal site in a social setting, or provide, only once, an interesting or relevant link to another site.

Promoting an off-site location for your union falls under "personal web site advertisements."

I understand this may make it difficult to capture more than an alleged .1% of your community that would check sigs, but those are the rules you each agreed you would follow. If you break your agreement, you should also understand the consequences.

[QUOTE="blizzvalve"]So according to the ToU, we can't move our unions. WeirdTheForgotten0ne

You can move your union but you can't tell everybody to follow you...

You could more say you leave and you hope that they will come and say hey...Speak in codes and also say if they have any questions they have to PM you, and if they ask what you mean you can actually say more if you get it...

For the most part, this is correct. Personally, I would recommend just putting a link to your union's new destination in your signature. Leaving it at that not only stays within the ToS, but also ensures that any of your interested associates can find you if they are looking to leave the GameSpot Community. This should be an opt-in transition rather than an encouraged exodus.

I recognize this thread has been set up for union leaders who may be exploring options about leaving the GameSpot Community. If that is something being explored, GameSpot respects every member of the community's right to leave or compare service options. The only thing not permitted by the Terms of Use agreement (which every member of the community has committed to abide by when posting) when posting options is advertising or endorsing a particular course of action for everybody to take.

If any member has a question or concern about moderation, I suggest posting in the Ask the Mods forum to get clear answers as to why a particular moderation occured. I have found the Staff and Mods to generally be very responsive to honest inquiries about ToS enforcement.

I'd like to be on your panel.

I'm not sure how much I have to offer. For the past year-and-a-half I've been the active officer in the GameSpot Live Union. Recently I joined GameSpot as an employee. I don't really take kindly to direct email, but I try to respond to PM's. I can help by clarifying and contributing to GameSpot policy. WhileI am not really somebody who enjoys being lobbied, I figured we can have our discussions here rather than via other channels.

. . .Of course,I also try to be respectful not to go where I am unwanted.

Back when... wasn't Gamespot just like www.cnet.com/games? It didn't have any special name like crazy what not. woolysockofdoom

Different site. GameSpot was acquired by CNET within the last7 years. Before that it was part of a different media company. GameCenter was CNET's previous game property. When GameSpot was subsumed, GameCenter was decommissioned.

oh it's an admin... hey where did Greg kasavin go?? he was the best reviewer... to stick to the topic, NOT ACTUAL glitches if u didn't already get it by now, I doubt they do something so dumb just to show how innovative they are, lolo, the gameplay already shows thatKeitarourashima

If nobody has posted since the last time you contributed a message to a board, and you have additional content to contribute, please edit your most recent post rather than spamming the topic with more messages. making additional posts is unnecessary and disruptive to your fellow users.

Greg Kasavin's fate is detailed in his blog.
