Considering moving a union off-site, any suggestions?

This is for anyone who's ever been into making, or has made a website before. Where is the best comprehensive place to make a website, where I can get it all for free, but still get plenty of good features. From the recent events on GameSpot, I've been led to believe there's no place for me here anymore, so I want to try and establish my very own union website. I will still remain here for a while, but I'm not sure how long, perhaps only until my union's birthday. Anyway, any website creator/ informant would make me very happy.

I am also planning on doing that! Seeing how CNET no longer cares about Gamespot, it is time to bid farewell.

As for now, I see three major components of a good site: a good hosting solution, a nice blog system, and a good forum. I have decided to go with ipowerweb for my hosting. I have installed PHPNuke for my Blog, and I am thinking about using PHPbb for my forum.

Right now I am looking for good sites offering tips on customizing the looks of both PHPnuke and PHPbb. I need to build good templates for both.

Never really thought of moving off-site. My site probably wouldn't get a lot of activity. Don't know much about site-designing, either, so...

And in light of current events, I, too, am considering leaving. Been hectic the last couple of days. But again, I have no advice.

I'm trying for an off-site union network type thing, where we're all affiliates. Just depends when we find other sites, etc.

As long as Josh Larson keeps his job, we will never have better unions. Unions are too "hardcore" for Mr. Larson's taste. Josh Larson only wants big, instant monny from game companies.

The next thing he is going to do is to sack the unions. You just watch!

Yeah.

Sounds like an interesting idea if it's possible. Still, my union is more focused on the forum board than anything else, so unless we start producing something, like a webcomic or video series, we won't really be trying to make a website.

My main concern is that there is a lot of stuff in the current union I want to preserve, does anyone know a good way of doing that? At the moment, my only idea is to set my posts per page as high as possible and save the html pages to my computer. Could take a while.

Like I mentioned on your blog Sentinel, I would also prefer us to keep in touch, even though I don't agree with you 100% about this.

In the transition from GameSpot to other sites communication will be difficult, so to help streamline this I reccommend a 3rd party app: IRC. I have created a private channel everyone can join and discuss this situation in, for a tutorial on how to connect click here.

Anyway, I have my forums set up, now the hard part with the site will be going on.

If that is something being explored, GameSpot respects every member of the community's right to leave or compare service options. The only thing not permitted by the Terms of Use agreement (which every member of the community has committed to abide by when posting) when posting options is advertising or endorsing a particular course of action for everybody to take.

If any member has a question or concern about moderation, I suggest posting in the Ask the Mods forum to get clear answers as to why a particular moderation occured. I have found the Staff and Mods to generally be very responsive to honest inquiries about ToS enforcement.
