@naotasback: the gameplay is exquisite. Truly. I'm with you when it comes to a lackluster story, but i make an exception here for two reasons. One is the story here is really an excuse for the incredible, rewarding gameplay. Two, I think many critics are unfair to the story. The story has a requirement to create a scenario in which Vikings, knights, and Samurai can all fight one another. I challenge absolutely anyone to come up with such a story and not make it corny. On the other hand, corny though it may be, it is well acted. The voice acting is solid and many of the scenes are emotionally stirring.
The question is what is it made of? They talk about "hand finished" and "leather trim" and such but they tactfully avoid mentioning what the statute is actually made of. That being the case, my guess is plastic. I'd be tempted to buy one of these for my GoW fan fiance, but I'm not about to pay 500 bucks for a 26" plastic doll.
@aegis_kleais: that is my assumption as well. The article said the device will get much more "real" soon, but I'm skeptical. No doubt it is very cool technology, but as for its practicality, this device in its current iteration is little more than proof of concept. I believe it will need vastly more processing power than would be practical for a consumer level product in order to have a meaningful impact on gaming.
@Diablo-B @Camenwolf Diablo, you make a valid point about not judging or reviewing the game based on user created content. I concede that point. However, I still maintain that this review all but disregarded the foundry itself and the fact that the foundry is *conducive* to quality user created content. The quality of much of the current content is only a testament to a quality implementation of a grand vision that is so much more than what I believe may prove to be a relatively very small amount of developer created content.
I agree with the review from the perspective from which Kevin reviewed it. However, I think that the game was designed with *great* focus on the foundry with the idea that the content would grow infinitely with user created content. Kevin mentioned the quality of the user created content, and I believe the review should have been more heavily focused on that aspect. The quality of the user created content, the fact that it is a platform for growth, and on the quality of the foundry itself.
