I wholeheartedly agree with this review Peter. The single player is absolutely fantastic, it is just pure fun. The fact that it plays just like the old Doom classics and yet feels so insanely fresh and new is beyond impressive. It is not without it's faults though, like you said I mirror the 'eh' of the platforming elements. While I like the idea of slightly breaking up the action these sequences can last far longer than they should and are frankly just more often than they should.
Multiplayer is fun in small doses as you said but I can never see myself sitting and playing online for any long stretch of time. That being said I do enjoy the concept of the constantly moving capture zone.
I am excited about SnapMap and really hope the community hit the ground running with it but as of right now the longevity of that is still up in the air.
At the end of the day the campaign is arguably one of the most fun I have experienced in an FPS in a VERY long time and while it definitely has some faults I cannot wait to jump back and slay some more demons!
You have got to be kidding me.... All last night everyone on my friends list was playing this and so against my better judgement I got the game despite not liking the alpha or beta and planned to hop on around 11/11:30 EST and now I read this. Talk about buyers remorse....
I love how somehow in the comments it becomes a huge uproar of even more console wars. Did the purpose of this article just go way over your heads or what? Both consoles are improving, both consoles have spectacular exclusives and both can succeed. The failure of either MS or Sony will only lead to the downfall of gaming. It is the competition that keeps these companies alive, each is the yin to the other's yang.
And yet per usual we continue to have people fervently fighting for one side or the other as if one HAS to win. *facepalm*
Glad to have all this info but the way it is presented is a bit overwhelming. Wish it was perhaps a standard article here with it subdivided by each class rather than scrolling through all 63 images.
Glad to see that this has found so much success that it is being released physically now, but I am a bit annoyed at the exclusive content. I prefer having my games digitally anyway and so have no desire to purchase a physical copy of the game just for some bonuses. Bummed however that it sounds like that will be the only way to get said bonuses though perhaps they will be made available later as DLC, who knows!
@oc40: Agreed. As my buddies just stick to Casual matchmaking to avoid headaches, there are far less cheaters it seems and so many of these glitches are unknown to me. That being said the consistency with the updates is definitely a great thing and I am happy to see them keep coming. Hands down one of the most underrated games of this past year.
@groowagon: Agreed that as a Metroidvania I can see it working and transitioning really well. Watching the gameplay of this Endless Runner however I am not all that impressed but will still give it a shot tomorrow and hold off judgement until I actually try it.
That being said creating an endless runner such as this is 100x cheaper and cost effective for them to make than a Metroidvania unfortunately. : /
While DMX is clearly my favorite there that is as a fan already. The only one that actually felt like could be in a commercial was Queen's. Either way a fun little thing to see and definitely shows how awesome and big the Dark Souls community has gotten. I remember back with Demon's Souls we were just a small group on a couple forums and now it is a huge thing and that makes me happy! : )
