anyone who had would know that joel first held on to ellie for a job with a close friend and business partner (a contradiction to their statement right there) and then continues to look after her because of tess's dying wish. then an relationship developed from the time the spent together surviving. jesus christ, it's like gamespot is trying their hardest to not enjoy this game and failing at it.
does it deserve to be nominated for an award for best story? sure.
but all arguments about whether or not this is a game or interactive movie aside, there just wasn't enough gameplay, and what was there wasn't compelling enough. quicktime events can help immerse you more in the story being told, but regardless of what you did, everything was scripted. there needs to be more interaction and freedom, and innovative/interesting gameplay for it to deserve a nomination for GOTY.
