[QUOTE="U_Got_Boyd"]why does wrapping towels around it fix rrod (well for a little while) ? I mean isnt rrod caused by overheating..? wouldnt wrapping towels around it over heat it more lol makes no sense Tjeremiah1988
idk, 360 is a strange console that you have to overheat for it to work for awhile :? , I dont get it. But keep on doing it, it will eventually die.

**sigh**

the RROD are caused by overheating, yes, but an overheating GPU/CPUI more specifically -- NOT just an overheated system (in general). The reason for this is that the connection between the heatsinks and GPU/CPU chips might as well have been made with silly puddy bc they suck and after a while come loose. When the chip cant dissipate heat via the sinks, they overheat and BLAMMO!

what the towel trick does is block all vent holes and exhaust so that the inside of the box gets H.O.T. By doing that, the thermal paste (silly puddY) between the sinks and the chip reheats and reforms a connection. Let it cool again and now the chip can dissipate heat again and [should] work.

ive already devoutly protested this method, so ill leave it at that. just dont do it

not similar at all, IMO. Dead Space better captures the "survival horro" genre better than the current two iterations of Resident Evil. Dead Space is more akin to the RE series prior to 4 and 5, which i think can now be considered actions games, not survival horror.

unfortunately, no one knows if any one box will last 1 day, or 10 years. The fact that we have to even ask this question speaks volumes for the console alone. Nevertheless, we all know about the elephant in the room,so no point in beating a dead horse. The new units are more "reliable" but not foolproof. I think your question should be "Do i really enjoy playing 360 games enough to risk buying another, despite claims of new product stability? and is that enjoyment enough for me to possibly have to tolerate another faulty console?"

[QUOTE="BadBoy_Lo"][QUOTE="dongagan"]so what is the cause of it.....can i fix it myself ?...without the towel trickTjeremiah1988
i would NOT recommend the towel method. I dont know what genius came up with that idea, but think about it: would you wrap your TV or computer in a towel just so that it would work for another day or so? Probably not, so why do that to your 360? Fix the underlying issue and it wont happen again. do a google search for the "x clamp" fix and for less that $10 and an hr or so of work your problem will be solved. PM me if you need help

unlike your TV or computer, the 360 is so strange that it works after being heated. I would recommend the towel trick while he looks for a solution.

i agree insofar as getting your box to work. That is fine, but what you are doing is baking the innards until the thermal paste melts enough to form a better connection between the heat sink and chip. 1) this will not last forever...it's going to disconnect again. 2) do this enough, or too long and you risk frying the chip and now your box is FUBAR. Why risk it??

Have you used any cheats?? if thats the case you cant get it on that save file.tony_fjellborg
True. Assuming that is not the case, try this: You can pack 10 cars tightly into one of the tunnels, then go ape sh*t. Or, park 10 cars in front of one of your save houses. You only need a piece of the car to tough the parking space for it to stay there. Then go ape sh*t. Might take a few tries, but dont give up!

I have left 4 dead and it really good but I need something diffrent ive beaten all the levels a bunch of times. I want a third person.Warrior427
I hear you. Dead Rising 2, maybe, but that isn't pure open-worl style ala GTA. RE5...well, ill refrain from commentary on that one. L4D is great and does a lot of things right, but it's still missing something.

You can't do that on the 360.

No-I've never seen any defrag settings in 360 system?

I kid.

not a laughing matter. i ran anti-virus 3 times on my 360 and it's still not 100% virus free. wtf?

quit throwing a blanket on it while playing.....jk lol but seriously give it more room to breath. RROD from my understanding is from the mobo warping which it a heat issue. My mobo stays cool when I stand it on the side and give it 6 inches of room in each direction. When I play with it horizonal the bottom is as hot as a christmas ham out of the over.ttobba07

the issue is not the motherboard warping. rather, it is the gpu overheating to the point it will not operate (could be the cpu as well, but usually it is the gpu). There are large heatsinks attached to both. When the physical connection between the sinks and the chips become loose, the chips will not cool properly. This is faulty design, really, not "poor gaming practices". You should be able to play your console for as long as you wish in relatively tolerable conditions without anything happening, so relax: you didnt do anything wrong.

as always, i recommed fixing it yourself if this is the nth time it's happened

No, gaming is expensive

People should stop looking for handouts

Either you can afford the hobby or you can't

I agree with this.

that is a bit one-dimensional, isn't it? If it were that cut and dry, why would there be a gamerscore in the first place? I understand what you guys are getting at: it is what it is so stop trying to milk it for free stuff. Got it, but my interpretation is a little deeper than that. See, it's about innovation; people looking for innovative ways to make an existing product better. Everyone feels a certain way about gamer points - either they are useless or are great - so why not bring added value to them? Perhaps not necessarily by creating an exchange rate to MS points, but something more than just a score.

I dont think anyone was questioning the high cost of gaming these days. That much is a given.
