Looks like a re-skined Full Spectrum Warior. Not a bad thing; however, besides the name, I do not see anything that reminds me of the orignal X-Com. Not sure about this one.
The concept is nice; however, I just want to pick up and play a game. I do not want to be bothered by yet another layer of crap. I can see games using this to give players wepons, etc. and that kills me. When I purchase a game I want to play it with everything, I do not enjoy having to play it for weeks on end to unlock a better gun. Let alone being pushed to purcahse multiple crapy games to unlock some useless badge or trinket
When it comes down to it I think I could give two piles of fecal excrement about used games. What concerns me more is the non-transfer of digital content. This is why I hate buying digital movies. There are too many different formats, services, and what not. Everyone is trying to get in the content distribution game, as that is where the money is: see iTunes for example. Situations like this make Steam, and the Steam Box look like a more promising alternative, as the games I bought on steam ten years ago are still with me, even though I have upgraded computers half a dozen times.
Perhaps the name should have been Xbox: The Other One; as to keep all my digital content that I have amassed over the past 7+ years I will need to have more than one hooked to my TV. I wonder if I can pass through my 360 into the One to use the snap features and switch between systems on the fly…
