This is not your ordinary game !!! One of those you play again and again. A time killer.
When I played Patapon for the first time I was totally spellbinded by the graphics. They are simple and colorful. Thus they give this game a childish touch, although it is a war game.
All you do is giving these small little walking eyeballs commands by pressing trianlge, square, circle or X - button to create different battle cries. According to these the small Patapons charge, defend, proceed or whatever.
As it seems the controls of this game are simple...and that's just what they are. But in addition to that you can equip the Patapons with better weapons, shields, bows and so on. So a lot to improve your own army.
Basically this is what you are doing in this game:
Playing rhythms for your little army to make them do what you want. To this you might encounter many different foes which requires a different tactic to kill them.
The story is nothing special. To be honest I don't see any except a classic good vs. evil situation. But that's how war works, so it is not meant negative.
Of course this game sticks out and I don't know a precise decription of this genre. Thus this seems to me very revolutionary. And it obviously is because no other game offers similar gameplay or encourages you to wiggle your feet.
While it can be difficult at some parts it is definetely a game you want to play again and again.
