@nod_calypse: Yeah, they're wired to the mains (though it's just a connection in the electrical box), but one is required to be carbon monoxide/smoke/strobe and the other just smoke/strobe, and they run about $200-a-piece.

I'd rip all that out and just go wireless. You can connect over multiple floors, all types.

It's a condo apartment, so it needs to be connected to the other 10 units so they all engage in case of fire. It's why I can't just replace them myself (though that's just their rule and not due to code). Sucks, but thankfully it's only every 8-10 years unless faulty.

Yeah, literally the only difference between normal combo-units or smoke units, is the strobe light (which is required) and basically more than doubles the price. Crazy. It's just to make sure that it's all working as intended with the building's system, but it's annoying and came in the worst month.

Is Discord better than traditional forums?

Not being able to post for some 3yrs gave me some perspective, and it didn't really bother me that much at all that I couldn't post, I even stopped coming to this site altogether for months on end, so it won't be too hard for me if it indeed happens but would suck if this place gets shuttered.

Not sure about other people, but I don't post on any other forums at all, this is the only one. So, no IGN, Discord, that neogaf, or 4chan that I keep hearing about. I would just disappear into the night lol.

System Wars already has its own Discord, but its a ghost town as no one hasn't posted there in months. Discord is only good for communicating with most developers but its also great for Switch owners to communicate when it comes to MP gaming.

That place became the filter for the actual Discord lol. A way to see if someone has the same dumb SW baggage outside the forum.

The real server is still going strong. Started out as old GS peeps, but we've skimmed heads from other forums and servers, it's a pretty cool group. Only had one leadership issue, but he quickly got demoted.

But yeah, lots of good personalities, discussion/debate, lots of multiplayer groups. People VC and stream almost daily. Pretty much my go-to spot for gaming stuff.

Imagine moving from SW to 4chan like my @techhog89🤣🤣🤣

Definitely not going back to IGN and it's been 9yrs since I ever log-in. In fact, I'm not sure if my old account is still active at this point.

Banned for 3 years? Didn't feel like that at all. Time flies. Can't even remember what you were banned for. But banning is pointless now unless it's some super serous shit.

Use to use this and the Escapist forum (unsurprisingly Ghost is there) but like many forums now "gee goly, let's re-design it and reset everything". And low and behold you have a dead forum with most people leaving.

Sometimes browse 4chan V but it's basically a roundabout of "my fictional cartoon wife lol", "oh no black people society is ending", and edge-lords trying to shit on rando things. Super fucking repetitive.

Not a fan of Discords. Esp VC, never do I want to hear a SW voice again. Just weird.

Other than this forum I don't go to any others, only knew 4chan, resetera, noegaf etc were because people here mention them all the time, i've never been to them myself, heck never even signed up to IGN, well that's because that site is cancer for the eyeballs.

No idea what the forum was before this change, but people left in their droves because of it sounds weird af. I mean you can quote and reply to posts, use memes/gifs (with some trouble on occasions) so not real sure what more could want.

As for discord, know nothing about it, but if it's a podcast type thing, then yeah i'm with you and don't really want to hear what other people on this forum sound like. I assume some would sound like a squeaky toy lol.
