I agree completely with the idea of marking the games down if they are offensive, not sure about the game in question is all I know about is the character design and dont see it as offensive on its own (there may be something else IDK) Any source of media (films,tv shows, video games) should be marked down for offending certain groups as it is basically just insulting people who may play the game etc. Just depends if you can make a logical explanation on how it will be construed as offensive though.

I too think that exagerated boobies are unnecessary.

However i also agree that it makes no sense to complain about women objectification when brutal games with lots of deaths and gore are standard around the industry... i doubt gta5 will have low scores because of that...

In my opinion, the question isnt so much the morals of the character design that would result in marking the game down, its whether any women who are playing the game would find it insulting.

Why would they find it insulting unless of course they are insecure to begin with. It's not meant to be realistic. Most women I know would find it more funny than anything, I mean the sorceress especially her anatomy is just rediculous.

That would be like me playing gears of war and feeling insulted because my neck isn't the size of a tree trunk.

political correctness is just being bigot to bigot... some women loves to flaunt and show their body, parading with sole attention of being objectified and be desired upon. discriminating that their hobbies are universally socially offensive is like saying your wrong because i say so.

Im just talking in general and TBH, in regards to the character design, dont really care about it (which, as a guy, I was never gonna be relate to the issue though) but honestly dont think there is enough for it to be classed as insulting/offensive

My point was in his comparison to marking a game down for objectification of women would be based on the same ideals as marking a game down for showing too much gore, with them as two different areas of discussion of content in games as Blood/Gore is more of a Moral issue whereas as this would fall in line to how people interpret it (ie being insulted or offended for it which this review clearly did)

However, if there is another issue like this soon (which,is pretty likely) a game should be marked down if it can be logically explained how the game is insulting/offensive to certain members of its possible audience

But that's just another way to state that art is subjective, should we dock points on something just because it has elements of lewdness.

Michaelangelo would have been screwed, I mean hell this goes back to the beginning of time. I'm pretty sure there were cavepaintings of stick figures with giant boobs. Both the Greeks and the roman empire were absolutely obsessed with the male form, hell the romans viewed phallic imagery as a form of power.

I just believe docking a game for busty character models and provocative art a rather silly thing to do, it doesn't come off as professional in the slightest and makes me question the content.

I dont think anyone ever saw Michaelangelo works as insulting And as much as Video Games are art, they should also be seen as media and popular culture and have to accept that although there should be creative freedom, there also has to be limits. Video Games cannot use the arguement of it being art to hide from the fact it my be considered offensive or insulting by people Look at it from a extreme point of view, if a game is full of racial slurs and hate speech, should it allowed to avoid criticisms through the fact it can be construed as art and is a form of creative freedom.

I think there's a very big difference between what dragons crown supplies versus full fledged pornography. It's suggestive at best.

IF the game was originally marketed to children then I could see this being an issue, but it's not like you battle giant dicks with full frontal nudity. This argument kind of reminds me of what Shia labeouf said about how he believes Sex on film should be considered acting just as well.

Im not saying this applies to Dragons Crown

All Im stating is that issues such as a game being sexist, racist etc deserve to be docked points in any critical review

To be completely fair, Cortana's boobs don't jiggle around with every step, they aren't the size of her head, and she isn't striking suggestive poses.

Who else thinks GTA V will get docked 5 points for having hookers, no strong female character types and women serving only as sex objects to the male character's power quest. Don't raise your hands too fast now.

Oh my god, it is. That is hilarious. Apparently there's other stuff in the game that's offensive in a less ridiculous manner, but that right there isn't offensive, that's just plain goddamn stupid. Whether in a good or a bad way I don't rightly know. Holy s***.

Well GTAV's Michael has a family with a wife and daughter (who seem like dramatic characters so it will have supporting females if the game really takes the story seriously it will be much more then sex objects to the male roles.

That's a fair assessment too, but GTA hasn't had a single positive female character who isn't a hooker, criminal or working against you in it and yet reviewers will never call it out. Of course, GTA 4 was a major improvement in the storytelling from 3 to Vice City to San Andreas, so they've shown some serious maturity and chops -- but regardless, the game will have more negative "tropes" versus women than Dragon's Crown and get absolutely no flack for it.

Please, did you read their Leisure Suit Larry review? They knocked off points because it was offensive to women, implied that anyone who likes the game is a racist and said kickstarters need to die period (yeah nevermind the fact we got games like FTL and shadowrun thanks to kickstarter)

still.. if I went by sources, I'd still feel that eurogamer is the least biased in the industry.. they aren't wrong in that leisure sure larry is offensive to women... but then again, that's how the game has always been anyway. to say polygon, gamespot, or IGN is any better, to me, is absurd. It's also nice that they actually take advantage of the full 10 point scale on a regular basis.

If it takes away from the authors enjoyment of the game, then they can deduct points. The awesome thing about reviews are they are the authors opinion of the game, usually based on some scale. I couldn't play Tera because of how much it sexualized the women, and you bet that I would take points off for that if I actually reviewed the game and gave it a score.

People seem to forget that if you don't like the author's opinion (read score), then pick another reviewer, the internet is full of them.

I agree since Dragons Crown does not have hookers, but in GTAIV which you are mostly referring to they dont really objectify women ( other than the hookers), even Romans girlfriend seemed to have standards and was not really a sex object, even Michelle was
an undercover cop which is kind of far from downplaying women since it is considered a respectful profession at least compared to any men main characters in the game.
ALso has GTA ever had a main character that has not been a criminal or back stabber ( like GTA SA for example). The series is kind of about the criminal life not giving money to charity

You can literally walk down the street and see mass cleavage and girls wearing booty shorts all the time.

Women (not all mind you) tend to turn themselves into sex symbols all on thier own. So why is having 2 out of the 6 characters as kind of like a sex symbol a bad thing? Its fake boobs and fake a$$.
I take it you don't read eurogamer? I think they are by far the most unbiased journalists in the industry. then again, I usually just stick to my own judgement based on trailers and neogaf for buying games. probably one of the only reasons I've been the only one on here for 2 years hyping the game - because I don't let the industry set my standards.Some-Mist

It's also nice that they actually take advantage of the full 10 point scale on a regular basis.

they're still crap honestly.

At this point I base my research off of indie media reviews and user reviews

I agree with Polygon. There is a lot of pretty much soft-core porn in there. The East needs to get their crap together and stop.

On the 7th day he rested, and watched Football.

I don't have a problem with sexually attracted females in games or media, we love attractive things, I know some women who would seriously dump their current BF's with a night on the town with Robert Downey JR or Hugh Jackman (hell I'm a straight male and I think Hugh Jackman is an attractive dude), hell watching Wolverine he has his shirt off or in a tank top pretty much 80% of the movie.

Well GTAV's Michael has a family with a wife and daughter (who seem like dramatic characters so it will have supporting females if the game really takes the story seriously it will be much more then sex objects to the male roles. redskins26rocs

GTA is the story of the underbelly of American life, so it's not supposed to be glamorous, but GTA certainly does objectify women and it's rare they're anything but hookers or sex objects for the male characters. That doesn't mean the game isn't right in showing that seedy side of life (after all, this isn't Grand Theft Church Goer), but my point is that in Dragon's Crown the Amazon is a strong character who you can play and has a particular art style associated to her on purpose to make her unique. In GTA, most of the women just ask if you want to get lucky and get in your car to have "sex" and give you life or their only role in the plot is to be a hooker or one of Anita's Damsels in Distress. Yet no reviewer will dare touch RockStar for this, but they teed off on Vanillaware.

So what are you implying if Dragon Crown is not discrimating towards women because that is the style of the game therefore it should be forgiven or ignored, yet GTA is the style game where it kind of a thug life story with power, wealth, and sex kind of like some movies yet it should be deducted from its score I think we are kind of misunderstanding each other, do you think I am okay with Dragons Crown getting a poor score for such a stupid reason?

Haha, what the f*** is this? Is this actual art from the game?

Oh my god, it is. That is hilarious. Apparently there's other stuff in the game that's offensive in a less ridiculous manner, but that right there isn't offensive, that's just plain goddamn stupid. Whether in a good or a bad way I don't rightly know. Holy s***.
