Hell yeah. These are some of my favorite games of all time. Finally an official dressing-up. Long overdue. Release early next year. Dopest part is they're including Unfinished Business, Golden Mask, and Lost Artifact. Dope.

Cool for its time on the ps1. Couldn't care less about this IP nowadays. It needs a second reboot, and make it as dark/grim as TLOU, but in the treasure hunting setting. I think that could be pretty sweet.

I enjoyed the first three games well enough back in the day but not enough to really want to replay them now though. Going to be a pass for me.

Did you play the expansions? Unfinished Business, Golden Mask, and The Lost Artifact. They're excellent. The Lost Artifact especially, as it's a full game, not just an expansion. They're included in the trilogy.

@nod_calypse: I played these back on the PlayStation so probably not. Not all that interested to back to this era of the franchise regardless though.

@Archangel3371: Yeah they were strictly a PC thing, if I recall. This will mark the first time they're on console.

Seems like a cheap cash grab. Would rather get a proper remake. Remasters are pretty lame for the most part.

I played Tomb Raider on the Sega Saturn about 6 months ago. Finished it back in the day. However I got about an hour in and couldn't force myself to keep playing.

People are in for a real shock if they go back to playing these.

I loved them at the time, but no thanks now. Not sure a remaster could do enough to make them feel good to play.

Neato. Having a non-hassle version would be great. Interested to see the little changes.

Not looking good, to be honest. Seems like they did not even bother to make proper new textures and used cheap AI upscaling with weird brightness/contrasts tweaks, ending up with a result than looks worse than the original.

Back then I played the original for 15 minutes and really didn't like it. Might give it a second go if cheap enough, or on Gamepass.

Hope there is a modern control scheme, even if this would break the gameplay somewhat, it seems like a must.

I absolutely 200% disagree.

Edgy take here - but the controls in Tomb Raider 2+ are PERFECT.

The maps are designed around it, every single camera angle you can and cannot see if deliberate. And it the player has the ability to quick turn.

The levels from top to bottom are explicitly designed around it's mechanics. It's a lot more than Ass Creed where you "hold down button" to auto-do everything with lazy cunty copy-paste whatever design. Every 20 feet of these maps generally have thought put into them.

Which is probably why game journos will hate this cause of them can't make toast without burning the house down.

Hoping this isn't a full price game £30 would be fair.

Yeah exactly, not having modern controls would mean the same people that couldn't get into it so many years ago, will not be able to get into it now. What is stopping the game from receiving updated controls that work with how the game plays?

I never played the original Tomb Raider or Tomb Raider 3. Though I had Tomb Raider 2 for PlayStation but never beat it except for getting to the second level. Excited to finally play the trilogy with modern controls and graphics. I hope Tomb Raider Legend and Underworld are next to get remastered.

This is exactly what the old school community wanted. A simple dress-up of the originals, changing next to nothing. Just a solid port that works, eliminating the need to jump through hoops. The added PC editions are a huge thing. The Lost Artifact being remastered and released with the trilogy is a dream come true.

Yeah, this is strictly for the fans. There's an undying cult following of old school TR. So undying that we have a website where we post new games built with the old engine. There are thousands of titles in the catalogue, it's nuts. For the community, there is no shock. This is precisely what we've been asking for for years.

@nod_calypse: I see. A bit too niche/nerdy for me then.

its the same people who are dying for MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3 remasters or god for bid - ports.

No thanks. I want the full remakes with MGS4/MGS5 controls and 2023 graphics engine.

But I can see the appeal in the original gameplay.

Yeah, it's a niche community, for sure. But it's a big community at the same time. Sales should be good, I would think, especially since it is being spread across multiple platforms.

You know, more acrobatic trap dodging dual pistol wielding badassery, less cinematic drama.

I'm very pumped for this, this was probably the announcement that got me the most excited. I haven't played through these, aside from a bit of the original. I love the new updated visuals, better while still looking faithful. I should really sit down and play through the originals on Steam while I wait for this.

Felt 2 was a masterpiece for the time on ps1 the controls will need a lot of work in 2023.

The controls are perfect, though. They were designed specifically for the grid-based system. The obstacles, puzzles, etc. are organically connected to how you control Lara.

Well, yeah, I mean, don't get me wrong, I'd love a new TR--and actual new TR that respects the originals, and isn't this reboot crap. But simple remasters of the trilogy--plus the Gold editions and Artifact--have been a long-time request from fans.

It's actually had 4 reboots.

Tomb Raider was suppose to end at The Last Revelation, the developers behind the publishers back got pissed off at having to make these games, so they secretly killed her off.

When heads up gave them a bollocking they had to retcon it and make a soft-reboot with Angel Of Darkness.

When Angel Of Darkness went down terribly with auidences, they entirely changed developer and rebooted it again with Tomb: Raider: Legend

And then when that bled dry we got Tomb Raider (2009)

---

IMO that series basically became shit at Legend, it might as well be an entirely different series, played nothing like the OG games.

Even with the OG games deteriorating in quality after 3, those (including Angel Of Darkness with user fixes) rather play over anything afterwords.

100% on this. Super excited. Hopefully they'll clean the controls up a bit too.

My excitement will be complete if it has a mode to play with the original graphics too.

Look, Tomb Raider was multiplat as it gets... But even I see it as an iconic PS One game.

I original played 1 on the sega Saturn before playing 2 on ps1. Really enjoyed the puzzles in 2 really interesting how they get the controls set up to the analogue sticks.

Thought Legend was fine. Takes an A->B->C route to an extreme, but still fun. Even like Angel, though the game is an afterthought. The reboot-reboot took Lara and put her head in a blender. Completely different person, completely different game that feels like a gross emulation of Uncharted.

when comes down to it, would rather play even Chronicles over the reboot. hell, would rather play Chronicles over a lot of shit today
