I'm impressed! The controller is big but really comfortable. The screen looks really crisp! Ray man legends was fun and looked excellent. The WiiU itself is really long! The thing must have been more than a foot. I'm happy with my Pre Order! Anyone else play it?

For all the non believers. Feel free to call my local Gamestop. The phone number is (760) 340-5505

My Wii is really long and you don't see me making threads about it.

No, really though, that's cool. I didn't know they had kiosks set up already. I'm thinking about selling my PS3, Wii and 360 here in the next couple of weeks. Just go WiiU and PC until the next consoles drop.

the tablet was bungied to the set up. It was on a really nice TV and thu also have a WiiMote and Nunchuck. The only demo available was Rayman but they had info on other games coming out along with trailers. I knew I should have taken a picture lol Ill get on tomorrow.

Definitely. I mean... how could a guy on a gaming message board possibly be excited about a new platform from one of the best gaming companies in the history of this industry?

It must be remorse.

Like you need to change em? Or like they'll dry out with a good breeze?

Trying to decide if I should pre-order.

My gues is that not all of the GameStops have them. My mall seemed to be pretty lucky with this stuff. When the Wii Launched we had a giant Wii kiosk with Nintendo Reps and everything there. They had 5 Wiis available.

The Best Buy in Troy Michigan has one set up as well. The game pad is a little big and kinda strange to hold but the screen looks good. The only playable demo was Rayman, but it looked great! I watched a few of the videos as well. Other than the length of the Wii U, it is pretty similar to the Wii design wise. My excitement level has been raised a little for the launch. I would be more excited if I hadn't just built a new gaming PC though....... Sorry Nintendo.

I tried one at my Best Buy in West Des Moines, IA, as well. Was impressed with all the tech, but not sure if it's worth $350 quite yet, not until a new Zelda, Metroid, or Mario come out for it.

There are.

Wii_U_Pro_Controller.jpg

It also supports the Wiimote.

Though as far as I'm concerned the tablet controller looks great! Its the main appeal of the console for me besides the inevitable 1st party titles. I'd at least give it a try before writing it off.

My issue is that most games will only focus on 1 tablet controller. The most the console will support is 2. This would be the equivalent of the original Wii only allowing 1 or 2 motion controllers and the rest being GameCube controllers. Nintendo makes great party games no doubt. But if only 25%-50% of the players are getting the main innovation of the console, the "gimmick" is only half as effective as it was last generation. Like most hardcore gamers I will own a Wii U day one. But I am having a hard time seeing this console catching fire like the Wii did.

It looks more like a combination of the touchscreen controller and the motion controls that will bring in that unique experience. A lot of it is that asymmetric gameplay that Nintendo has been talking to us about for so long.

Thats cool and all, but I actually like the 1 tablet idea. If the WiiU turns out to be a single player centric console I'll be very happy.

I'll be able to play it sooner or later. I will end up getting a Wii U anyway, just not on launch. I'm waiting for Zelda and Smash Bros etc...the WiiU launch line up is not too impressive, but that is how all launch line ups are.

That is the last thing Nintendo wants though. That would be a complete 180 from what the Wii was. And if last generation didn't happen the way it did, Nintendo would be the new Sega. The last thing I want is for Nintendo to fail. But this generations "innovation" will not come close to last generations. The only hope is for enough software support to fight off the 3rd party support for Sony and Microsoft.

It looks the bottom part of a DS, which released nearly 5 years before the iPad. Plus it's super light and good for long gaming sessions. I'm sorry, it's not exactly a radical change like the Wii remote with less buttons, it's a natural evolution of the traditional controller with every button you could want. I just don't understand why some people think it's a bad controller. It can do everything any other controller can do, plus more and has off-screen TV play. And as others pointed out there are many alternatives but expected most games to focused on the game pad.

Waiting on the software still, but I'm optimistic it'll perform well at retail. Doubtful it'll live up to what the Wii did.

It is not necessary for all players to receive the tablet controller in order to have it affect their gameplay experience. Consider Nintendo Land, some of it's ten different attractions involve asymmetric gameplay. One player uses the gamepad and it's separate screen, 2-4 players use the TV with screenless-controllers. On a single video games console we can support two different views into the game world. Previously one essentially needed to have multiple consoles, a console 'LAN', to have this type of gameplay. More gamepads is obviously better again, but quite frankly I would have been happy with one.

I too see it having a hard time 'catching fire' but for different reasons. It's mostly too early to tell.
