Gamespot review 9/10

Well...that was unexpected. I completely forgot that it was releasing soon. How crazy is that.

The Good:

Wonderful cast of interesting and relatable characters

Overarching narrative and diverse environments create a cohesive worldChoices that lead to adventure, triumph, and heartbreak

Lots of big areas to explore, with lots of great secrets to uncover

Fantastic balance between exploration, combat, story, and customization

The Bad

Combat requires relatively little strategy : (

About time we got a major traditional AAA title that didn't disappoint.

Loved Origins, loved Skyrim, so I get the feeling I will love this too. Will pick this up definitely, when is relatively uncertain.

RPG OTY has been crowned.

If only it had a better plot it would have been even better, once again mediocre plot excellent characterization.

I played 2 without playing one for some unknown reason. Went back and played it. I found no problems adjusting to the story.

No clue though.

Not necessarily, they created this to catch up with the history and create a save file which you can import:

I kinda saw this coming, since I've been following the game for awhile and saw how much they've improved (and regained) since DA2.

"Combat requires relatively little strategy"? Watching the video review indicates that the statement was directed at medium difficulty. I'm not worried then. In DAO you also wouldn't need to use pause and advanced tactics on Easy or Normal.

ADD: What I didn't expect though was that this game is as lengthy as Skyrim. BioWare games are generally long, but tend to be in the 40 hours range rather than the 100 hours range.

"Combat requires relatively little strategy"? I guess the big question is then, what difficulty level was the game reviewed on?

In the video review, he says it was reviewed on 'medium difficulty', so normal. Hard and Nightmare are both available for those that want more of a challenge.

This and Far Cry 4 coming out on the same day (i believe) is going to be good as fuhh coming off of Shadow of Mordor. I only have one mission left before I beat Shadow of Mordor (amazing game) and I've barely taken The Evil Within out of the shrinkwrap (played 20 minutes or so).

Far Cry 4 is another game I think is going to get a surprise AAA here, and nobody is hyping it at all in SW. Which is weird given how well 3 scored, was talked about, and was generally loved on here.

This past month has redeemed this year from being as shitty as everyone expected.

As someone who loves the world around Dragon Age, I'm glad DAI is doing well. Unfortunately, I can't buy it for obvious reasons.

Sorry Bioware, but to quote Piccolo from DBZ in the English dub of the Garlic Jr. Saga: I hate to do this. It's not your fault.

If there was a Wii U version I'd buy it day 1. But, since there isn't, I'll wait for a Ultimate edition with all the DLC included.

Nice, definitely gonna pick this up sooner or later. If the combat is more action-oriented that doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I'll wait for a few more reviews and some player feedback before any decision making. After all, DA2 scored A-AA at most places and that games a piece of shit.

Critical consensus is this...excellent exploration, incredible characterization, and choices actually really do matter, they shape the world around you, the biggest flaw is that the side quests not are only variable in quality, they pad the game and slow down the narrative. Many pointless sidequests. Some reviewers call this game too conservative and risk averse as well.

So, it will win RPGOTY for most sites, its a possible but probably not favored GOTY candidate, but its not Biowares best game. ME3 right now has a higher score.

Having incredible foresight, rather than looking at number for shallow egotistical self gratification, the review as well as several others where read. They all strived towards the same consensus.

The combat is simplstic and tactics aren't needed.

Being one of the few real pc gamers; who remembers proper CRPG's, this will not be purchased. .

Wrong.....most reviewers played it on normal, which allows you to not use tactics for the most part. Add the fact that there are NO healing spells and limited potions. You do not use tactics on Nightmare, you die...plain and simple.

And Divinity lacks the "why I care" part, the story and the characters, Nevermind DAI provides far more choice and consequence than D:OS.

And the first game is far from great as well.

First of all, nobody checks user reviews for scores, they are for reading. Player experiences pinpoint various specific perks and flaws that reviews may not address, as website reviews are written for a big picture. For example, in DA2, reviews mentioned repeating dungeons, but it wasn't until players got their hands on it that it was apparent just how blatant and frequent the copy/pasting was.

Second of all, DA:O scored better on PC than both DA2 and, at the current moment, DA3. This is going off of both gamespot and metacritic, since you're adamant on using the latter as your basis for argument. If you want to use MC to argue that DA3 and ME3 are great, you can't then ignore MC when DA:O also scored well and received acclaim, or it destroys the integrity of the argument. Can't have your cake and eat it too I'm afraid.

My friend, being an apologist will not change reality, this is not a tactical intellectual game, Mass Effect with Dragons. With characters that look like burn victims reconstructed in a generic setting.

Divinity Original Sin at least sets itself apart with light humor as well as easily the best tactical combat of any CRPG (which Dragon Age Effect is not).

It's a deeply disappointing game that not only betrays it's roots through cynical redesign but actively bungles up basic design. Making features such as the tactical camera not only work poorly, but not become necessary.

As suspected, Divinity delivers.

Dragon Age : Inquisition may have been better in cutscenes and as an overall game but I doubt that it is better than Divinity : Original Sin in terms of gameplay, specially when Dragon Age series itself is dumbed down a bit (Inquisition is huge improvement over DA 2 but I don't think it'll top Origins in that department) . I've played Dragon Age : Origins and rated it 10/10 . I've also played Divinity : Original Sin and I can assure you, D:OS is far better "RPG" and better in gameplay department. But it doesn't matter , I loved both Origins and D:OS and I can't wait for Inquisition (hated DA 2) .
