I do highly prefer Half life world too.

Half life has every strength over Doom except movement and combat.

Weird. Kind of expected Romero to be better at shooters. Not expecting him to be amazing or anything, but that legit looks like the Polygon Doom 4 footage.

I'm playing this right now, but why do the enemies look worse than their 2016 counterparts? Is it just me? Also that HUD UI, blegh. I want the old 2016 HUD UI back.

This. So much this. 2016 was just a better game overall, atmospherically and strategically.

every game have strength and weakness over it. Doom 2016 has better atmosphere since it set on mars and also better soundtracks too.

Eternal is just much harder. its ultra voilence is Doom 2016 nightmare. its a thinking man action game. not just grab shotgun and go.

Doom 2016 was mindless game but this game require strategy. you will die so many times. you have to use all weapons, you are low on health and ammo.

it solved actually. people are playing with default fov. just switch it to 110. it feel much better.

tbh, first 2 level were not really impressive. they are horribly design linear but HOLY crap the third level was so amazing. creatively design and so are later levels here.

so i can see some people judge the game based on first 2 levels.

If you think doom guy moves slow that's 100% on you.

Between the meat hook on the shotgun, ballista boosting, the boost you get from glory kills, the dash, and basic ass bunny hopping you can carry tons of momentum around the arena

Upgrades also carry over to the next difficulty, because new game plus is a ting. Unlike Doom 2016 where to do stuff on higher difficulties you literally had to go back to vanilla shit. Replays n fetching shit is something you suffer on playthrough 1 (not gonna lie, that shit sucks), and then never deal with again. Plus master levels.

Managing your shit is very much how one plays Doom, it's how one plays classic Doom and it's very much part of the fun here. Some of yall that got to basic circle strafe your way to wins in Doom 4 about to learn.

That said give the game could use a turbo mode, because all action games should have a turbo mode.

i think lots of games are better than half life 2 lol. Its own predecessor (Half Life 1+the expansions) and its own expansion (Episode 2) are better than Half Life 2.

Enjoyed DE very much, unlocked everything. Now playing mission select with every collectible cheat mode's on, highly replayable and fun game.

I was just going strictly by the youtube posted. I've already played and beat it in one sitting (with this stay at home stuff n all) It was ok,but nothing to hootabout.

and yes Doom Eternal is masterpiece. and it even include Doom 2 where you can play it too as mini game (and proper game. not just few level).

I have to say I’m quite enjoying the game and it does feel harder than doom 2016. The managing of ammo, health, and armor adds a bit of strategy. Also the enemy AI seems to be pretty good. They are smart enough to take shortcuts and try to flank you to cut off your movement which is your biggest asset.

After Doom Hunter intense boss battle. I took a deep breath actually.

your complain of AI will be resolved here. this game has best enemy AI since FEAR.

some are. some of them not. archville run very fast.

game is hard. you die alot playing on nightmare. it test skilled and reflexibility. and once you defeat all demons, you take a long deep breath.

The enemies do exactly what they need to do. Keep you on your toes, destroy you if you don't stay moving and stay aggressive. Which is great, that's all this type of gameplay needs. No complaints.

But nah ghosts, lets not pretend it's some highly sophisticated or unpredictable system here. You always know what they're going to do at close, mid, and long range. It's very consistent, which is a good thing. (Yes, even the Archvile, like wtf, he's every bit as predictable as the Marauder lol.)

The variables that keep things fresh and interesting are the encounter designs themselves. The groupings of enemies they throw at you, how they play off each other, the layouts of the arenas, and how all these combine to keep you switching things up.

Wow, this game is tough! So many variables and such quick pace. My brain is firing every synapse and it’s still not enough. The game is brutal lol.

But it feels like it’s fair, so I guess I just need to practice more..,

Im playing both in one freaking game. Doom Eternal and replaying Doom 2 as mini game. this is Doom 2 with mouse support without any mods. Eternal include best version of vanilla Doom 2 by far.

Eternal is 11/10 because of that. 2 masterpieces in one. old masterpiece and new masterpiece.

Great job id. beside anyone who think old Doom are better still nastolgic. theres not much variety and you cant jump. only thing they better at being movement speed. actual combat is now better.

Doom 3 could arguably be said to be closer to traditional Doom.

Doom Eternal is more closer to original Doom than Alyx is closer to Half life 1 and 2. ironic lol
