Mean: Pro: 59.28 | XBX: 58.53

5th percentile: Pro: 55fps | XBX: 51fps

1st percentile: Pro: 53fps | XBX: 48fp

PS4 Pro - Dynamic resolution
- Lowest native resolution found being 960x1800 and the highest native resolution found being 1920x2160
- Using a temporal reconstruction technique the PS4 Pro can reach a pixel count of 3840x2160. This resolution very rarely reached.
- The PS4 Pro renders natively at 1920x1080 on 1080p TV

Xbox One X - Dynamic resolution
- Lowest native resolution found being approximately 1560x1500 and the highest native resolution found being 3840x2160
- Native 3840x2160 is very rare

Sacrificing frames for pixels... The X should be locked at 60fps

Probably not. It has dynamic resolution in order to maintain frames OVER pixels.

The fact that neither can hold to 60 even with dynamic resolution speaks to a bottleneck in the other hardware IMO (e.g., RAM and the shitty CPUs)

When the resolution goes up, the GPU becomes the bottleneck. Why not target lower resolutions? If the resolution is lowered to keep up frames, wouldn't it make sense if the X targeted 1440p and a locked 60? Sure there is headroom at that resolution, but in a multiplayer only game performance should be the main goal. I guess we will have to see if anyone checks the performance of the Pro and X on a 1080p TV.

The frame rate difference is minuscule, hardly worth debating over. Also...

At first I was wondering how the game came to these resolutions and still arrive at a 16:9 aspect ratio. Until I realized you mixed up the horizontal with the vertical numbers. Should be 1800x920 and 2160x1920. Just needed to point that out.

This game is making the consoles wheeze. Definitely time to focus on speed/performance next gen.

And I laugh at people that think this game should be on the Switch.

The numbers aren't mixed up, there is horizontal reconstruction occurring. I didn't mention it in that bullet point because I was discussing "native" resolutions. The second bullet point mentions "using temporal reconstructionthe Pro can reach 3840x2160" while the first point says, "the highest NATIVE resolution found is 1920x2160." 1920 x 2 = 3840.

I'm "working" right now, so my post isn't a clear as it could be. That's on me.

COD hasn't been a '60fps' game for a while now as they spent way too much time in the 40fps region, nice to see this is now closer to 60fps.

They also need to tweak the dynamic resolution on X as it's a little too relaxed in terms of drops to allow closer to 60fps.

Heck there's no reason they couldn't drop it to Pro levels get a locked 60fps.

Oh I see. So instead of conventional diagonal upscaling, they only extrapolate the horizontal pixels to artificially double the width in emulating the overall "ultra HD" dimension. Sounds odd to me, gives the impression that the picture looks stretched to fill the screen, but if that's what they gotta do to sell the illusion... <shrugs>

Considering the game is online-only, my guess is the developers are running into a wall with the CPU on both.

@goldenelementxl: but the point is when the resolution goes down it DOESN'T keep 60FPS. Unless they enforced a minimum resolution that was still too high, this suggests it's not the GPU that is the bottleneck. The devs didn't choose resolution over framerate, because they let the resolution dynamically drop in order to try to hit the framerate.

The underlined part is what I'm assuming. Resolution kills GPUs, and the resolution scaling is what is saving the performance for the most part. I'm not gonna go all Ronvalencia here, but a CPU's influence on higher resolutions is minimal, ESPECIALLY if the performance is good at 1080p. Again, we won't really know until there are results of the X and Pro running on a 1080p TV. If the game performs better or is locked at 60fps there, then we know for a fact the resolutions are still too high.

I don't really know who they are pushing these silly resolutions to anyway. Most people won't tell the difference when the resolution scaling kicks in, so why even do it? Without Digital Foundry, most would never know. Now the frame dips on the other hand... Especially in a competitive multiplayer game... Most will notice the dips

do they actually allow 1080p rendering for 1080p? most games just automate to downsampling

@howmakewood: The analysis here says the game doesn't downsample, but renders at a native 1080p. I think that's because the base PS4's resolution is all over the place.

I think I would take the higher resolution over the .75 fps difference in this case. The resolution difference is much larger than the fps difference.

@kuu2: The Xbox One X version uses a dynamic resolution that doesn't come close to native 4K the majority of the time.
The Xbox One X isn't native 4K or a locked 60fps. In fact it's performance in slightly worse than the PS4 Pro.

I wasn't refuting your post, even though it's factually incorrect. The X has a lower average framerate AND a lower minimum. Yes, the resolution is higher at all times, but in a competitive multiplayer shooter, some might argue your definition of "best." I was just bringing back some of your old trolling that completely contradicts your current trolling. If only you had tempered your expectations in the beginning...

One X should def have more aggressive dynamic resolution when it has weaker avg fps while having a slightly better cpu, so more aggressive one should result in higher avg frames than Pro

With the rise of Battle Royale modes, Its interesting here you have a consistence ugly looking engine from big publisher. It has an ugly consistence look but designed to at least get close to 60fps on consoles. With PUBG you have a smaller studio starting out going with a pretty looking engine but there is no way for it to run such a game above 30fps on consoles. Heck to hold 30fps sometimes it has to have some ugly ass patches here and there. That small studio blows up but now stuck with that demanding engine that is unplayable on base consoles.

This is why next gen is needed. If nothing else at least to take advantage of AMD new leap in cpu architecture. Surely even the expected gimped versions will be better then the Jaguars. Lets see how dice handles this mode.

Similar thing happened with Titanfall 2. Then Respawn patched it and X1X smacks down the PS4 Pro version. It will happen here too. Say it with me: The PS4 Pro does nothing better than the X1X with multiplats.

Just live with it.

In comes the edgy COD takes. The game is good guys, probably best in the series. Keep being cool though.

@kuu2: Acutally no, I’m on Xbox One X. I have friends/family I play shooters with. If the PC community stays populated, I will probably double dip.

Let me know if you want to squad up sometime. Probably be playing this weekend. Weekdays are pretty tough with wife, kids, and work.

@kuu2: Tell me about it... If I play during the week, it’s between 10-11:30 EST. Just after the wife and kids go to bed. If I see you on, I’ll send an invite.

Feels like last gen COD games ran and looked better than these. Jesus.

Last gen CoD games also had maps that were 1/100th(or smaller) this size.
