Bleeding Edge about to be released

Anyone care? I imagine not.

Revealed at E3 last year, Bleeding Edge is a bit of a departure from Hellblade. This 4v4 multiplayer hero combat game definitely has an air of Overwatch to it, including hero characters such as Daemon, Buttercup, Gizmo and Miko, but with over saturated colours and a lot more melee. Curiously it actually has its roots in the MOBA genre, instead of trying to ape Overwatch, but gradually morphed into something more direct and combative.

The game’s been through a number of closed alpha and beta tests, and it’s now ready for primetime, but Ninja Theory have already started adding new characters to the roster. Just last week, they revealed Mekko, the trash-talking dolphin in a mech suit – because of course! – and a new map set in Mexico called Landslide.

We went hands on with Bleeding Edge back at XO19, coming away curious about how the game is going to turn out. I said, “Bleeding Edge is a huge change of pace from anything that Ninja Theory has made before, and it’s great to see the freedom that being a part of Xbox Game Studios has given the studio to continue to experiment and push their own boundaries. Bleeding Edge won’t have the same impact that Hellblade did, but it is sure to be a cornerstone multiplayer release on Xbox One and Game Pass when it launches in March next year.”

So, we’re just a few days away from that launch date, and we’ll be diving in to check out the finished game as soon as we can.

Battleborn tried similarly and looked how that turned out. Bleeding Edge is no different.

Picked a hell of a window to release it in.

Played the open beta, it was fun! Will definitely play on and off on gamepass. Its like its own overwatch, I enjoyed it.

The beta was fun. Definitely not a $60 (which obviously it isn’t). I enjoy Overwatch, will definitely play this. Glad it’s in Gamepass and this is clearly an appetizer for Xbox gamers while they switch to focus to next generation.

Overall, it’s fun. Nothing great. But definitely worth a few hours of gameplay here and there.

Looks like it could be pretty fun and I wouldn’t mind checking it out but there’s just way too much other stuff coming out that I want to get.

I really have to wonder why they bothered. Overwatch is almost 5 years old, the window to rip it off came and went ages ago. I can't possibly imagine a clone game will sell well when 2020 is already loaded with other games and people are in the middle of a shitty financial crisis.

Poor Ninja Theory; they're great game makers, but I fear this will not do well.

Wait what? No promotion or hype at all, is Microsoft sending the game out to die? Anyhow, might be a blessing in disguise releasing when in social distancing. Maybe will attract many to try out new genres during this free time.

No not currently, wishful thinking on my part, but that's what i'm hoping they will do sometime next gen, maybe when they finish Hellblade 2.

Another 100% CGI trailer? What's the point of this? Xbox fans used to make fun of these types of CGI trailers but I guess it's ok now.

I don't think Sony had a single first party launch trailer this entire gen that didn't also have actual gameplay included. Not surprised no xbox fans called this out, MS has been doing this for a while. But it's funny seeing loud mouth hypocrites swallow their own criticism and now sit in silence.

DmC the bum ass reboot absolutely does not disagree with my statement considering it completely butchers the depth of Devil May Cry's combat, enemy, n bosses. You would know that if you actually played Devil May Cry games at anything resembling a competent level.

I have no idea why Ninja Theory felt obligated to do this. If you're gonna do a hero brawler, at least make the designs more appealing. Still waiting for something great from them, which I know it will come, I just have to be patient.

It's this year's LawBreakers. If there's any saving it, make it F2P.

@uninspiredcup: ive been playing on gamepass, played open beta some too, I'm enjoying it.

It actually reminds me more of paragon than it does overwatch with its melee combat. Which i was a big fan of paragon before epic shut it down to put developers on fortnite.

I like the heroes and abilities, art style is cool, not the best but not bad either, the melee combat feels good. The mechanics are solid.

The only real negative I have for bleeding edge is lack of content, needs more maps and more modes, besides that it does what its supposed to do great, being a team based melee brawler.

This game i think is going to be my sleeping gem this year, liking it alot more than i thought i would. Really glad its on gamepass tho, I do think 60 bucks for the game is high, needs more maps and modes.

Since OW2 is nothing more than co-op dlc, id honestly play bleeding edge instead.

@BenjaminBanklin: They were already working on it when they first release Hellblade on the PS4. Not my type of game but I think it looks fine for what it is.

The game can't be $60 though. Not sure what it is in the US, but here in Australia its only $40, so that would be closer to $30 US.

@jg4xchamp: I've played them all (minus 5, havent had the time) and DMC ranks up their with the best of them. I was really disappointed we didn't get a sequel to it. But keep being butthurt, its fun to watch.

What's there to get butthurt over? It's the shallowest between it, 3, 4, n 5. Financially it wasn't successful as it was a sales dud for Capcom and did worse than DMC4 with a bigger install base and a bigger marketing push and the stupid ass journos on their side.

I'm glad that you're capable of playing through DMC once, but I said competent level, and if you honestly believe the reboot stacks up it's because you don't know shit about shit. There is a pretty obvious reason why the combo mad scene is still alive for DMC 3 and DMC4 and still larger than the ones for the reboot. Shit DMC1 still gets more speed runs than DmC. So spare me your usual stupid, lame routine of getting butt blasted at people bad mouthing games you like because you're insecure about your shitty purchases.

Says a lot about Gamespot that the game has released and they don't even have a review up.

They even did a feature article with it not so long ago.

3 is still my favorite of the series but I still enjoyed the hell outta the remake (bought it twice actually, ps3 and ps4 versions and played through it 3 times now). Sorry that hurts you so deeply and makes you so angry. :( Are their any other games I shouldn't talk positively or enjoy because it will set you off?

I played a lot of Overwatch back in the day and I don't think I'm interested in a similar type of game.

Maybe when they started it, there was more of a promising trend for these types of games. It just doesn't seem as relevant now. But, it's not my money. It's not like this game faltering is going to hurt them in any way.

Same here, but with TF2.

I played a ton of TF2, so when Overwatch came around, I had zero interest.

I kind of would like to check it out, but I'll have a lot of games to catch up on. Maybe if my XBox comes with a free month of gamepass and it's on there I'll see what I think of it.

So I actually don't know if it's entirely accurate to call this an Overwatch clone. Borrowed a lot of ideas from it for sure, but most of what I'd heard about the game is that the gameplay is pretty different, and more melee focused for combat. I got this kind of arena-style feel from the gameplay videos I watched, if that makes any sense.

Doesn't make me angry at all, I don't care what your favorite is or what your buying purchases are, my take still stands. If you could play those games at a competent level and actually understood the depth of them, there is no conversation to be had on how the reboot completely butchers the gameplay of the series. It in no way stacks up favorably to the best games in the series, and has not maintained the playing community at high level that the other games did. There is a reason it needs a definitive edition to fix basic shit about its gameplay, that isn't even all that fixed in its definitive edition.

Not even. For it to make money as a F2P game, like Paladins and Smite, they would have to make appealing skins. These characters are ugly and unappealing, who is going to buy skins for them aside from edgelords?
