Not a plus at all, only the cards that have in 8 as the second number are any good for hardcore gaming..ie. 8800 9800 with the exception of the 7950 for the nVidia cards which is pretty much old by todays standards though.

Im not really a hardcore gamer, Im mainly using this for media-centre and moderate gaming. Besides that the only game I really play is Universe at War.
This is intended to be a step up from AGP of my old pc.

Well a step up over that it definitely is, but for only $40 or $50 more you could get a much better GPU.[QUOTE="Michael_2171"][QUOTE="frosted210"][QUOTE="Michael_2171"]Gainward Nvidia Geforce 9600gt gs

Easy there turbo. The 9600GT is a solid card. In fact, it goes toe to toe with the 3870.

I understand what your saying but to upgrade its not really a plus for that rig he is building. Since this a gaming site I figured it's a gaming computer and to furutre proof it an 8800 or 9800 would be better.
But since he is not a 3870 (or smaller 3850) is best for his needs since it does have HDCP and HDMI compatibilty and if he chooses to get SLI you can use the Diamond Viper 3870 in an SLI setup with nVidia Chipsets cause of the XDNA which can run in both SLI (nVidia) and Crossfire (ATI)

Yea, just got all this for £280 second hand-custom built.Ill post pics some other time
Case - Not sure but it looks nice :D
MoBo - Asus M2N-X
Monitor - 19'' Samsung SyncMaster 1400x900
CPU - AMD 4400+ X2 ATHLON @ 2.3ghz

What do you think of my killer rig:
P4 3.0Ghz (2.4\2.4) (It's actualy a good CPU)
HD 2600 XT AGP 8x
1.5 Gig RAM
XP
With my 'sweet' 17'' CRT
Realy, it's a good rig, I play Crysis on mid with 25FPS.
Here's my specs:

3Gb DDR2 RAM
Superclocked 8800GT with 512mb DDR3
500W Nspire PSU
500GB Hardrive
20" HP LCD Monitor
Case: HP Standard Tower
Basically it's a regular cheap HP with a juiced up PSU and GPU I shoved inside. Budget system, still great performance though.

don't get a new CPU. Your p4 is good and dual core. (don't belive me: ctrl, alt, delete and go on performance, 2 charts) Angry_Bosmer
Some p4's have HT which means that they are a single core but act like a dual core. This does not mean that it is as good as dual core because they perform much slower (I used to have one and hated every minute of it). The p4 HT is basically a wannbe and is quite sad for gaming these days.

I guess you didn't read this.....

GuessWho120
HT is just emulated dual core......and yes in device manager and taskmanager it looks like you have 2 cores....but you don't.
The newer Pentium D was the start of the dual core line.
Oh well I'm stuck with a P4 3.0Ghz. I have a socket 478 (thats only P4). :(
