Actually, that is far from huge. Most WU's are 2.000.000 frames in size...

How can you tell how long a frame takes to be completed?

You can't. The highest verbosity level is 9 and even that doesn't display frame per frame completion (it would take a lot of more time to render the text for each finished frame). And the frame time is different with each WU type and used core.

Hey this is pretty cool.  I just started like yesterday.  I've completed 2 WU's so far.  It takes like 1:36 each frame and both WU's were like 500 frames i believe on the Amber Core.  I'm letting it run while I work.  And I usually have 14 hr shifts so thats a lot of work that can be done.  I'm running it on dual core and I just read an article to run two WU's simultaneously, one on each core.  This article was in one of Maximum PC's recent magazines.

quick update:  the third one is a 5000 frame core and its taking like 24s/frames.  I can't believe I just jumped from dead last in GS's folding team to 188th.  I'll see where I'm at soon.

It's not that hard to do. You just need to copy the client into 2 seperate directories, launch and set them to a different Machine ID (max. is 8 ) and you are done. Windows should automatically set the affinity between the 2 cores so both programs don't work on the same core.

[QUOTE="El-Senor"] This really needs an update...

Krall?

I know, I know !

Let's see I'm currently working on a Master Game Discussion  sticky,  I'm doing another one for broken 360s in the X-Box forum, I need to update the BF2 sticky, I'm working on a full CPU & systems buyers guide for this forum and that doesn't count all the moderation duties. I should have some free time in a couple of weeks or less since my house work is nearly done. I'll just have to do a little research to update all the links and see if there are any good guides around. Sorry I know I've been saying I'd update this since forever

It was a crappy computer anyways, socket 462 Athlon XP 1.1gHz. Only thing is, now I have a ton of decent parts (relative to the old P2 "pc" I had) and no motherboard, so now I need to buy a new s462 mobo. :S

There's an article on GS that says that they have figure out a way to use the x1900 to help fold and it folds like 10x quicker now or something.  I hope that are able to figure out a way for the 7900GT to fold so that i can help out even more (and maybe pass Krall and Gordon24 lol).

The X1800XT was about the first GPGPU collaboration that enabled to make the VGa work for any program you wanted to run on it. So the X1900 would be better as well, but the breakthrough which they focused on the most now was the Cell architecture that is going to be used in the Playstation 3. An article and some video's of the client in action on a Cell architecture can be found here: http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-PS3.html

I think though they have only programmed the x19 series to help in processing since it can calculate something like 370GFlops compared to the cpu which is like 40GFlops or something.  I just wonder how much that would heat the video card up to though it would be one of the best things to do to test overclocks on your cpu and gpu since if it could handle that for 12hrs of so then it should be good and it will be for a good cause.  I hope Nvidia steps in now and helps them make a program for the 7 series cards to help out.

Bèta tests were performed on the X1800XT and they asked for GPGPU volunteers then as well. I can still remember the fuss in the FAH forum when this data became available. But the official release is indeed the X19* family

The program saves progress every few minutes, so if you quit and reopen it later it will start at roughly the point it was at when you closed it. And the program uses your CPU, not your GPU, so you don't need to do anything to your video drivers.

well, i joined. more questions, my cpu maxes at 50% i'm guessing that's due to my HT cpu? anyway i can maximise it? well, i heard that it's now possible to use both cpu and gpu together and get some significan increased performance, only it says that ati's driver's needed

Yes, it's because of HT that you see 50% CPU usage. It's 100%, you can be certain of this, so maximising it won't have much of an effect. Don't use 2 clients, since the HT is just a virtual CPU and will be very slow... The client has only been written and released for ATI 19** family GPU's. No use in trying it on your Nvidia card or with different drivers, it won't work.

ah great. thanks guys. ok, more questions (i did go through their faq) maybe it's a placebo effect, but i'm convinced the first frame is slower... first one took me some 20 minutes ytd, and then i did a few more at 7minutes today, it's taking me some 20 minutes for the first frame too. *yes, you can laugh at my computer, but, seeing as to how there are 8 PENTIUMS still folding...*

edit: screensaver won't work?

No, no placebo effect. It happens in most projects, since the core has to start from scratch and build it's environment first. It must get a general idea first of what it is going to do, and that demands lots of resources. It's not wrong when this happens. There are issues with the screensaver, indeed. Mostly OpenGL related. Fixes are second to none, waste a lot of resources and are planned to (hopefully) be fixed in the 6.00 client. Questions like these get asked in the FAH forum A LOT! I generally advice to NOT use the screensaver and use the blank screen or something else, since the moving FAH window is a resource hog and slows computation down massively.

Whats not clear?  The x19 series is very good at making calculations and they have figured out how to make the shaders work for them.  I just wish that maybe nvidia would help out but i guess it will have to wait until perhaps my next upgrade when maybe i can get a quad core and which ever video card is best that i can afford at the time.
