Exactly. Now if only Rappers knew this.

Nibroc420

Nice response, instead of actually countering his argument you just choose to ignore it. I like rap/hip hop - it varies as much as any other genre, it can be happy and positive, or the opposite. And actually, that's not something you can say about all genres anyway.

I read his whole post. However I've yet to see a talented rapper. They all just steal beats and rhyme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o36KlClKteU

Someone hasn't heard of Lupe Fiasco, Nas, or Common now has he?

And rhyming is rap, I can say rock is just wailing on instruments and singing over it and be as ignorant as the rappers you hate just like you.

Dude, just check out a few of the rappers I've listed or the tons of examples people have given you. The links are clickable and it won't take you but three seconds, lol.

RAP / HIP HOP music defines America and its a youth / style icon . Still i see lots of people from America hating on Rap / Hip Hop Music and blaming it for ruining POP culture .

indzman

i don't think it defines america and is surely does not define my youth.

[QUOTE="Nibroc420"][QUOTE="mems_1224"] no i mean that was a really dumb and ignorant onestevenk4k5
Find me a rap where. 1.) the Beat isn't stolen from another song. 2.) there's little to no swearing (occasionally for effect is fine) 3.) They're not just rhyming about how hard their life is, and how much coke/how many "hoes" they have. 4.) it actually sounds good. Good luck.

Why is it such a bad thing to rap out your hardships? A lot of these men and women don't come from much and the Hip-Hop culture is a means of expressing themselves and escapism. Classic Rap/Hip-Hop is nothing more than a form of poetry with a unique delivery to convey a message to the masses that they probably wouldn't understand otherwise. I honestly think you've been jaded by what's popular NOW but old school Hip-Hop as well as Underground Hip-Hop is still alive and well and do not resort to talking about drugs, violence, hos, money, cars, and clothes. And sampling always has and always will be a part of Hip-Hop; the beat just provides a basic canvas for superb lyricism. Don't be so close-minded.

Hip-Hop's a/was a culture that incorporated a lot of things back in the mid 70's. B-boying, MCing, DJing/turntable, graffiti art. Rap music/MCing spawned from DJing as often they would have an MC artist accompanying a DJ. Record companies couldn't initially see the turntable as commercially viable so instead they focused on rap. Then you got groups like the Sugar Hills Gang.

AFAIK most of the derp derp I kill that ****** and hoes and dope and crack and dippldee doo wap wap shama llama the banana obama crap initially came from the Gangsta rap in the late 80s.

Americans don't hate rap/hip hop. Otherwise it wouldn't have arisen here and succeeded.

Check this out. The beat isn't stolen -- hell they're playing acoustically, the beat can't really be stolen.

And besides "They just steal beats and rhyme" is oversimplifying it out of ignorance. That would be like if I said metal is "just some guys doing things on the guitar and yelling".

Wrong. Because "doing things on the guitar" requires 1000's times more skill than simply taking the arpeggio of a song and rhyming about drugs and hoes.

Just finished listening to it. Their guitarist needs some work :S Regardless, you've managed to find one group that actually plays an instrument as well as rhyming. While i can agree they're clearly more talented then the average rapper. It doesn't change the fact that the majority of rappers out there merely steal beats and rhyme about drugs and hoes.

Their early stuff is a lot different from their recent stuff. Most people (myself included) agree that A Piece of Strange is their best album. The Gates from that album still blows my mind.

I love their newest one too and you can (legally) stream it for free on bandcamp.

I don't hate rap/hip-hop, I just don't care for the genre, so there's very few artists or songs I like from it.

takes while to listen to all 5 songs and comment on them all -.- Honestly i was but i accidently closed the tab on firefox :(

Anyways, "Just the two of us" by will smith, honesly? It's a freaking cover.

"Keep ya head up" The track they rapped over is far from original, ~3 minutes in the "ooh ooh child things are gonna get easier" kicks in, and i was like "yea, how's this original?"

I'm not going to go through EVERY link everyone's posted in this thread, explaining what's stolen and from where. If you can't hear it, enjoy ignorance, but dont claim that those artists are original.

Music has 2 parts to it, the lyrics, and the instrumental. 99% of rappers steal the instrumental, and then just rhyme about drugs and hoes. How is that not stealing?

While i can agree they're clearly more talented then the average rapper. It doesn't change the fact that the majority of rappers out there merely steal beats and rhyme about drugs and hoes.Nibroc420

Ignored my links did you?

takes while to listen to all 5 songs and comment on them all -.- Honestly i was but i accidently closed the tab on firefox :(

You're ignoring the links because many of them destroy your argument, but you don't have the balls to admit you're wrong.

I don't get why people still refer to "Americans" on subject matter that's universal... People all over the globe like hip hop, just as much as there are people who hate it.

I'm ignoring them because listening to 40 different songs that are ~3-4 minutes each takes awhile. Every time i go "yeah, the background is from this other song" someone posts another 2-3 links. I'm not wrong, you just cant see there's no talent in rapping over someone else's song.

[QUOTE="jeremiah06"][QUOTE="Nibroc420"] Just finished listening to it. Their guitarist needs some work :S Regardless, you've managed to find one group that actually plays an instrument as well as rhyming. Because in my opinion it sounds like ghetto garbage and I want nothing to do with it. I want to hear someone sing, not some person rhyme words together to a generic beat.

CHOASXIII

You do realize that there's a ton of rap that has singing in it, right?

This sounds like ghetto garbage?:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdAIMCKK_-w

The point is, I don't like rap at all. I hate the beats, the rapping, the whole thing in general. I don't like it.

It's one thing if you just don't like it. I'm not going to make someone like something that I like -- if rap isn't your thing that's cool.

It's the "it all sounds like ghetto garbage" comment that I have an issue with.

Fine, but some of the production is far from generic.

I enjoy music that is original and doesn't involve taking someone else's work. ;)

Find me a rap where. 1.) the Beat isn't stolen from another song. 2.) there's little to no swearing (occasionally for effect is fine) 3.) They're not just rhyming about how hard their life is, and how much coke/how many "hoes" they have. 4.) it actually sounds good. Good luck.Nibroc420

I love their newest one too and you can (legally) stream it for free on bandcamp.

Thanks :) Any more examples of acoustic stuff, like the first link? That was a really nice sound.

You're dead wrong because most of the links posted DID NOT steal anyone else's music. The guy you quoted just happened to post songs that took from others. You were shown several links that didn't but you didn't reply to them because they destroyed your laughable argument.

C'mon man. There is a whole lot of hip hop out there. I don't even see how using samples is a negative. Whatever makes a song work is what's important.

I'm not going to sit here and listen to terribad rap for 30-40 minutes, while everyone posts new "proof" that while the first 10-15 songs were unoriginal, these next ones surely are!

No need to get super defensive. Face it, most rappers steal beats, and then rhyme over it with lyrics involving drugs, money, hoes, violence, and they usually incorperate swearing cause it makes them feel cooler.
