I always thought of being a Biologist as a backup plan just incase I land flat at an artist. Mainly a Canine specialist or something that has to do with dogs.

Right now my program of study is Business Technology Management.

I'm hoping this leads into a career where I can develop websites, become a QA for testing applications/video games or becoming a Project Manager for a company.

My ideal position would be something inside the games industry, but it's very competitive and right now I've been totally lazy when it's come to learning how to program lol. I need to learn soon, as I'm almost done my undergrad.

I want to do something with film. Writer, director, critic, professor. Maybe all 4. Critic could lead me to professor, I could work on a script while teaching, then have a, hopefully, critically acclaimed script, and then write/direct my next movie.

Who knows though. I could end up being a critic my whole life, or nothing to do with movies, since I will be just a sophmore in HS this year.

It's not a huge paying job, but it's enough to live comfortably and it is something that I'd be good at and that I would enjoy.

I was thinking about being a lawyer, but I'm too deep into becoming an English teacher. Maybe I'll go that route if I end up disliking teaching.

What kind of ****s are you taking? I've never heard of that major before.

First and second year was heavily based on business fundamentals. Organizational Behaviour, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Marketing, Global Management Studies, Communication in Information Technology Management, Finance, etc.

Third year was more focused on specializing your major or a minor. I choose to pick courses related to my program. The first one I took was Network Administration, using Microsoft Server 2003 (I don't know why they didn't teach us Server 2008, but okay). The other course I took last semester was Multimedia in Business (using Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc). I also have taken Database Admin courses, learning how to use SQL. I've taken one Fundamentals of Programming course which was brutal. I've also taken two courses on Data Communication and Network Design. On top of that, I've taken a course on System Analysis and Design and System Design and Implementation (learning about UML and what not). Lastly, I've taken an entry course that teaches you about ERP and ERP implementation.

Due to my program and it's complications with regards to requirements, I decided to stay back a year; so next year I'm taking only 3 courses per semester. The first semester I'll have one elective (international musics of the world.. or something like that. lol) and I'll have Project Management and Decision Analysis (using excel to create formulas and simulations, basically - stats).

It could depend on your country, but here in the UK you need to take training and everything to jump solo. :)

I'm surprised that the major doesn't have more emphasis on programming. When you say basics, do you mean literally just one semester of programming? Also which language did they teach in the course? I've considered working on becoming a video game developer since I'm studying computer science, however I was never aware of this major which you mentioned that does something similar.

It's actually pretty pathetic. The program was initially called "Information Technology Management (ITM)" but has since been changed to "BTM". According to the school, BTM is what employers are looking at more, they want someone who has knowledge in Business and IT, thus the name change.

In terms of basics, that's what I mean. First year we had one course on programming. That's it. We learned Java programming and it was a horrible experience. I went into the course looking forward to it but they did a poor job of teaching it due to mismanagement of the course. Things like not marking homework until the end of the course (thus, not giving students an idea of their progress) was a pretty stupid decision.

I was never considering computer science as an option. I definitely didn't have the credits for those programs during high school and wasn't really interested computer science as a whole. Though thinking more and more about my future, I really do want to get into the games industry in some form. I don't really care if that's making games, writing about games, or being part of a video game company in some other form.

As of now, I've been thinking about teaching myself how to program by practicing at home on my free time. I mostly useUbuntu on my laptop, so it's a pretty good environment to learn. I've just been incredibly lazy and put-off from that first year course.

That's kind of dumb in my opinion to change the name. It makes sense, however if it's the same thing it's a little pointless. Then again companies are oftentimes like that so what can you expect eh? :P Learning to program doesn't usually come easy. It's like learning a new language, and you have to spend a lot of time to improve at it. Having just one class surprises me since no doubt companies may be expecting more knowledge in the programming aspect. Perhaps even though it's not required since you'll only be taking 3 courses next semester (unless it's already challenging) you should look into taking another programming class. Knowing C## is vital and one of the languages which most companies look at.

They changed the name and added a mandatory course for fourth year, which is an extension of that statsitics course I have to take. The name doesn't really mean as much, but I guess now it makes it more obvious that its a mix of Business and IT :P.

Unforuntately, I can't take another programming course, as I'm not allowed to take any Computer Science courses (for some reason, they're not part of our professionally related courses).

The only option is to self teach lol.
