Cool. Have fun.
Hahaha. I'm not going anywhere either. Nowhere near a meltdown.
Didn't care much for PG as it was just an echo chamber and I come to GS for gaming news & discussion games, not political BS anyway. Look you guys, I get it some of you like PG but others like myself only come here for the games...and we also come for system wars as it s way more fun to go there for gaming hidden shills bickering which makes PG look like an afterthought. System Wars is still good, just go there for gaming fights and forgot PG ever existed.
I didn't consider it an echo chamber, although sometimes it could appear to be depending on who was in the thread(s). The benefit is GS still allowed opposing views unlike other "reeeeeee" forums out there (we all know who they are). The issue that's fairly common with politics is the tribal nature of it and how invested/personal folks get in arguing for their "team" while demonizing others. It was very common for folks to disagree while being disagreeable.
On the bright side, we won't see a lot of the copy/pasting recycled content.

Oh you guys.
LOL at least it has responses. Can't say that for most of these threads.

Big adjustment in transitioning to a cubicle/desk job!

Is the tribal nature a US or Murdoch media influenced thing?
Moderating the forum was in large part (in my opinion) very difficult. At the same time, when one side is no better than what was presented in that board, what the hell are supposed to do?
I knew they closed it for some BS reason and the locked, stickied thread at the top confirms that.
I mean my god, things are going to get heated. So what?
Wonder if the lawyers had to get involved or they just did it to cover their ass.
Lame.

I always found it pretty enlightening, even from people who I ultimately agreed with, but we got to that agreement a different way. That doesn't mean it wasn't horrifying at times though 😋
But especially with those I disagreed with. I don't really argue to be right, I argue to gain perspective and it was certainly a good place to get a bit of that.
Anyway thanks @Stevo_the_gamer and @horgen and any other mods that kept things as civil as they could. I imagine it was like herding cats most of the time (re: not easy)
Still bitter it's closed, and the reasons are pathetic....but I get it. Whatever.
Might be time to open a reddit account, I heard that place is kind of cool?
@horgen: ban liberals
Well yeah obviously ban liberals, but what else besides that.
😋
Anyone worried closing PG is just going to make OT more toxic?
Dang..
I was looking forward to arguing with people about the Durham report, when I say people I mean zaryia yelling at me to fact check from cnn and LJS giving me dismissive one liners
R.I.P PG
Don't worry dude, I'll still yell at you if you want me to 😀
Anyone worried closing PG is just going to make OT more toxic?
Nope.
Because if this place turns into PG 2.0, I'll just delete my bookmark and check out. I'm practically a Redditor (by accident) now. I have even less attachment to this place than back in 2016.
@mrbojangles25: This is across Gamefaqs, Giantbomb, fandom, etc.
Still waiting on some much needed clarification from the higher powers that be, we hope can share soon on what's appropriate/inappropriate in Off Topic.

I'm more of a Twitter guy and I mainly use it for gaming news and keeping up with key developers and very little political stuff. That being said, if GS takes away system wars (and you all know it's the only place I call home) I'll hang up my mod badge and leave the site.
Also, OT had plenty of political threads long before PG was a thing. Will it be toxic? Who knows, best wait and see if it will happen.
@mrbojangles25: OT will either be gone or it will morph back into (a lower traffic version of) what it was before PG existed - OT with a some threads on politics/economics/current events in it's mix with a flurry of those threads during big events like elections, scandals, or brinkmanship.
I think that's fine - the line between OT and Politics is razor thin on some of those topics anyway - but as before some people will be mad when they see a thread on the overturning of Roe v Wade sitting between their preferred threads on whether you should make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich jelly side down and whether Ben Affleck had a cuter relationship with J-Lo than Brad Pitt had with Jenifer Aniston.

Until then it's a complete free for all. Confirmed by the new moderator 😁
@Stevo_the_gamer: thanks for trying to keep us informed and being open in communication.
To be honest, i don't think the thread explaining the desition to close PG has been informative or cleared up anything, but you have been helpful in at least providing some feedback when we otherwise would have zero information.

Quite the flip side, political discussion in off topic will be kept to a minimum moving forward.

Absolutely no rules! Understood :P
Please ignore my complete lack of ideas when it comes to rule breaking comments/topics.

Anarchyyyyyyy.
So it begins!
Guess there’s not much further to discuss.
I’d appreciate a bit more clarification on GS’s part as to what led to such a decision, sorry but I don’t buy the “abusive” rationale, I’m more tending to believe this was done as a precautionary measure re legal reasons but that’s only speculation.
I guess all things eventually end. I’ve always enjoyed GS for the community; sure it was small but that was to its benefit….intimate….I felt to know each member, for as much as you can on forums, at least. Some I cared for more than others, a shared sentiment I’m sure, but never any lasting hard feelings, at least on this side.
So, just to say thanks to all of you guys who contributed over the years. Some interesting times. See ya folks around.
@br0kenrabbit: There were only a dozen or so people who posted in there at any given time. Me, 2-3 random folks, and a "gang of eight" if lib goofs who ganged up on anyone else who didn't toe the DNC line.
Is this the kind of posts allowed in OT now?

Toe the line? Is that what you call it when asked for proof that praying will solve issues?
I enjoyed reading the comments and occasionally commenting back. It did seem like a 10:1 ratio of left:right. Even the ones that seemed to me to be neither were labeled as far right. I think we'll probably all be better off without it. System wars is more just for fun. PG got a bit too serious.
@horgen: No, that's what I call it when anyone who doesn't take the DNC talking points as scripture are attacked by the same eight people in unison; even going as far as to make dismissive, abusive comments to eachother while linking the person in their replies.

Nope.

eh. reddit is too vast an impersonal. i enjoyed PG as it was a small group of basically the same ppl.
also, you REALLY have to tread lightly over there. a lot of subs do not have a sense of humor at all and will boot you in an instant. i got booted from r/Conservative and r/LateStageCapitalism in like 30 seconds for making objectively hilarious comments.

Eh. I'm well aware of Reddit's reputation. It's why I stick pretty much to the gaming subs, and about the edgiest thing I get into is r/subredditdrama, which I only read for entertainment and never post in.
About the worst it got for me so far was when I got into a bit of an argument after I off-handedly mentioned that I'm "instinctively libertarian-minded." I basically had to explain the difference between that and a full-blown Libertarian, and that was about it.

You've been around since 2005. If anything, you should realize that these forums would return back to how they originally were, a mix of off-topic and political discussion. Can't turn into PG 2.0 when it originally was the place politics were discussed before GS decided to divide traffic and create a dedicated board for political topics....
I'm actually hanging around reddit myself for a little over 3 years now. I mainly came here for PG and gaming news. GS is definitely giving less and less reasons to visit this site...

Exactly what I was thinking. PG was made back in late 2017 due to Donald Trump winning for President and even before that, OT was subtly mixed with Off-Topic threads and a few political threads all in one OT. OT was the goat of GS for everything except gaming threads weren't allowed anyway.
I just expect OT to get more traffic as it truly deserves. Why do we need PG when OT was already a thing for that when it came to political discussion?

2005 is not the same as 2016.
I apologise for my disinterest in hearing what I consider to be agony screams of a cripplingly flawed government system inevitably eating itself alive.

This is always an interesting response because I don't know how anyone is forced to open threads to read. I ignore threads that aren't of interest me but I don't complain about other people being interested in the subject.

Well, no, but I do have to sift through the agony screams to get to the stuff I give a toss about. It's how forums work.
And as I said, as "Democracy" rips out another one of its own organs and devour it, screaming even louder with every bite, it gets harder and harder to ignore and sift through, as the entire forum becomes flooded by all that nonsense.
I just would prefer for it to go make that racket somewhere I'm not around. I don't find that to be an unreasonable desire.
