Thats what it was, right? A collapsed mine? I am really glad that 28 of 33 miners at the moment have been rescued in Chile. :)

They really have my respect, I don't think I could've lasted that long, even if it was an accident. The conditions are around 90 degrees, they are pretty close to the mantle for it to get that hot, and the air isn't fresh and you're in a cramped up space.

They did get food water and a TV though.

if I made a mistake, I'll fix it. :)

Alone, I would have at least went nuts. But with people, it would have helped quite a lot. Everyone in that mine really went through a lot.

I saw a live feed of them the other day and they were all smiling and waving for the camera. I was like wow... you got some courage. :P

Of course they smiled, I'd be ecstatic and the idea of social contact.

I'd like to know where they defecated and urinated down there. I could just imagine how bad most of them smell. Oh, man.

As long as there is food, clean water/air and something to keep me from going insane (songs, word games, etc.) then I probably could last indefinitely. Though, a couple books would be nice for any REALLY extended periods.

I know what you mean, but it was like a scene where crowds at a football game cheer at a passing camera. It was hard to tell they were in dire conditions and fighting for their lives.

Considering all of them made it out alive, I think I would have good chances. I am not as tough as a miner, but maybe I could make it.

I don't see why not. It's not like they were trapped in a tiny confined space. They had miles of tunnels and dozens of rooms/caverns that they were free to move through. Would it be any different from being inside a building for a couple months with all the windows boarded up?

Considering I'm alone, I would probably last for just about 2 days because of depression and boredom.

If there were couple of guys there with me, I'd last for 10 days I suppose.

So in short, I wouldn't last 69 days

Doubt it, I'm hideously claustrophobic. I think it's amazing and miraculous that all 33 of those men have been rescued. Hopefully there's not too many lasting psychological and physiological effects from the situation.

People need to remember it was around 90 degrees with extreme humidity. Not to mention the smell of sweat, urine, crap and other stuff form 33 other miners in such a confined space. And during their first 17 days, they went by with a sip of milk and a bite from a tuna can every 24 hours, almost certain that they would die in there. Hell, I would be lying if I said I could survive for a day.

They knew they were down there, but they were almost half a mile underground and where they were exactly was pretty much unknown during the first 17 days. Almost any technology today needs DAYs to just get to that depth, and even that is a small hole a few inches wide (which they used to send in food and water). Not to mention the fact that trying to locate exactly where the miners are is close to impossible from the surface.

And when you're talking about drilling a hole big enough to fit a human through, you're talking about weeks of constant drilling. It's a slow process, and need to be taken on carefully, or risk another collapse that would jeopardize the whole operation.
