Only to women who don't want or expect to be pampered. Doing it to the ones that expect to be treated like a princess from a Disney movie... Urgh. *shudder*
You mean when holding a door?
The rule is hold the door for a lady, throw it open for a guy to catch.
The bonus is you hold the door, get eye contact and a smile, then you can check her out as she walks past... and they think it is gentlemanly
I hold the door for the attractive girls, I hold it open for the not so much ones.
That, and the ones I just like or are my friends.Only to women who don't want or expect to be pampered. Doing it to the ones that expect to be treated like a princess from a Disney movie... Urgh. *shudder*

I'm kind of the same, I will generally go with the Ladies first rule, but also, generally, I will not make way for someone who notices me there and waits for me to let them go first.
Also, there are few things I find as irritating as when a "LADY" makes the 'Ladies first' decision and just barges in front of me.

I'll occasionally offer to hold a girls books or ask if they want any help, but as soon as they expect me to help them I quit. Its not like I have to do it, I just want to help them. It's a freakin privelage

same here
Not always. Ladies like it, but not everyday. Girls only like being treated like that on special nights, like if your going to a fancy restaurant.
If its like just a regular date, they usually dont like it. They say it makes them feel like they cant do anything for themselves.
I hold the door for anyone, doesn't matter if it is a guy or girl however I may wait a little longer to hold the door open for a girl wheres I won't wait for a dude.
EDIT- Just wanted to add that I live in Texas and this is the standard, not holding a door open for a girl will result in dirty looks.
[QUOTE="socked_feet"]Following the "ladies first" rule is the cutest thing a guy can do. Not sure why...maybe I'm just weird. :?NYiVtec

Funny today this guy moved out of the way so me and this guys can walk through and I was closer so I went first. Then we get out and the guy pulls down his hood and its a lady and starts rambling how ladies should go first.
I thought she was a dude.
gotdangit
Did you tell her that you thought she was a dude?
No. To be honest I never even really think about it. If women want to be empowered so they don't have to just stay at home while their husband goes out to work, then they can open their own damn doors. :P
I'll hold the door open if the person does not have any hands free, but I would do that regardless of whether or not the person is female.

Totally the same. When you don't keep the door held open for them and just go in first closing it behind you, it just shatters their entire world.
I always hold the door open for women. A lot of them think you're a douche if you don't. Wet_Sand
I think a guy would be a jerk if he slammed the door in a woman's face, but that same guy would also be a jerk if he slammed the door in a man's face, too.
Personally I've always felt that there was a massive double standard in this side of things, where women want equality but then like it when you unnecessarily hold the door for them too on account of their being a woman. Equality means that people are supposed to not treat you differently based on your gender at all times, not just when it benefits you.
