Hi everyone, I wanted to let you know that gmsnpr has resumed leadership of the union.

I had a great time being leader of the CCU and will continue to be an active officer. I want to thank the officers that we have for being supportive and always looking to promote the union and contribute their talents.

Uh, I can't count the number of times I've had to phone up 48 hours before an event and scream at somebody because I haven't got my tickets yet (despite paying a fortune in booking fee nonsense and postage). Which is why I avoid Ticketmaster whenever possible. Sadly it's not always possible since they seem to have exclusive ticket rights to just about everything these days... lazy monopolising rip-off merchants...

Anyway, enjoy!

I know there has been quite a bit of publicity, there is the New Orleans band playing at the O2 today, some players have making appearances around London, and seen some stuff in the paper and on TV. With 85,000 people expected to go it should have a great atmosphere. Also there is a tailgate event before hand in the Wembley Arena, with the Sterophonics, headlining, at the main stadium.

My brother is mad about NFL, so I am taking him down and he can't wait. I'm sure that some people at the stadium will not know really anything about it but it should still be great.

Does anyone know, off the top of their heads, if Metal Gear Solid for GameBoy Color and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel for the GameBoy Color are the same game? I'm going through this "complete the series" phase and that's on my list. Any help?

I can say with 99.99% certainty, that they are the same game. I own and have played through it; it's pretty good.

Edit: Check the newsreel ... Game Boy Metal Gear Renamed

OMG No! I can safely say no they are no where near the same!

Metal Gear Solid: Ghoast Babel is a non canonical experaince and has a totaly diffrent plot. It is non cancocal though so is not apart of the main series.

If your wishing to complete the series all you need to worry about is in this order.

MGS3 - PS2

MGSPO - PSP

MGS1 - PS1 (Or MGSTTS - GC)

MGS2 - PS2

MGS4 - PS3

Doesn't mean I don't want to play them! ;)

I see what you mean though, although you omitted the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 from your canon list. This is the last part of a six-part retrospective on the Metal Gear series on GameTrailers. Interesting stuff.

No offense Fred, but despite your assertation, I would maintain that Metal Gear Solid (GBC) and Metal Gear: Ghost Babel (GBC) are indeed the same game.

How can you say there the same game, one takes place in alaska while another takes place in a made up country near afrika. There are completely diffrent characters, a diffrent version of Metal Gear and a completly diffrent plot!

After a bit of research, it would appear that inkwolf is correct. Here's the rub...because we in the US are apparently stupid, Konami decided to rename the GBC title Metal Gear: Ghost Babel to Metal Gear Solid because they didn't think anyone would buy it without the "Solid" in the title. So, Ghost Babel on your side of the Puddle is Solid here. Case closed...thanks guys!

Sigh...

From Wikipedia;
-Metal Gear: Ghost Babel - A Game Boy Color game released in 2000. The game features overhead 2D gameplay similar to the original games, but with elements from Metal Gear Solid such as the codec and VR training missions. The story is not part of the regular Metal Gear continuity and therefore is not canon. Released outside of Japan as Metal Gear Solid.

From GameSpot article (previously cited in this thread);
-Konami has renamed the US version of Metal Gear: Ghost Babel for the Game Boy Color. Though the title is a new installment in the Metal Gear series, Konami has opted to call it Metal Gear Solid, after its highly successful PlayStation game. Apparently the company feels that the Metal Gear Solid brand is stronger than Metal Gear alone.

From GameSpot review;
-While dubbed Metal Gear Solid, the game actually takes place many years before and in lieu of the universe portrayed in the PlayStation release. It seems a secret government project, codenamed Babel, intends to revive the Metal Gear program, but members of the Gindran Liberation Front have hijacked the new prototype instead. Returning to the jungle base Outer Heaven, site of Snake's previous battle with Big Boss in the original NES ****c, it's up to you to stop them.

The only thing I can see that could possibly be confusing you is that you may think I'm talking about the PS1 Metal Gear Solid...I'm not. Otherwise, you're flat out wrong. The GameBoy Color game that I am talking about, called Metal Gear: Ghost Babel in Japan, was released elsewhere as Metal Gear Solid. Your bold facing of the quote highlights EXACTLY that point.

That is all...this will now be dropped. I have the information I am going to go with. Thank you and please drive through.

You would be greatly welcomed. When I joined I had about that many games, and I'd say that a great majority of our members have less than 301.

I have joined after much contemplating. My collection was once larger before a certain dispicable person took my collection of older games and sold them all. The collection I have now was mostly acquired during the past couple of years and consists mainly of RPGs.

I am currently lying in the weeds eyeballing an auction for a complete-in-the-box copy of Turbo for the ColecoVision. If I should win said auction, I will need a console on which to play it. If anyone should happen to know where I might find one relatively inexpensively (please note the subtle, non-ToS violating hint), please shoot me a PM.

You will note that it ebbs and flows with major game releases. With so many triple-A titles out this week I can bet most of our regulars are playing. Also, the election kinda took the oxgen out of the room for a couple of days. Feel free to start new threads too KG. (oh also, we allow bumping of ald threads in this union, so feel free to go mining through old topics).

Finally, yeah you were not wrong about your collection being mostly RPG's pretty impressive. I'm jealous of your Harvest Moon 64 (I think I may have gotten it recently... not sure).

I've been playing as well, but I still make some time for coming here. I think I only know one semi-active person here, and he hasn't even made an appearance since I joined. I know he's hiding out with his 360 though, playing games since I'm always talking to him on there. I may dig through some threads later, when I get back from work.

I was about to ask how you could see my games list since my profile is friends only and then I realized you were a mod. For people unable to sneak into my games list like you did, you can find my list here and see how many games I've completed as well. :P

So you guys with the larger collections...do you collect just any game you come across, or only specific types of games?

KenshinGirl

I've not seen the backloggery website before, I'll have to check that out a bit more.

As for the collection issue, at >1000, I guess I fit under your definition of larger collections. For me I only collect games that I would like to play. Meaning, at the time of purchase, I thought that whatever it was I bought looked fun. There are some games that sneak into my collection that I wonder how they got past my fun filter but for the most part there's nothing in my collection that I won't play, or rather everything in my collection, I would like to play. I'm fairly picky about what I collect as well as I never collect loose carts or discs, everything needs to be in place. Boxes, manuals, whatever.

Nope, my collection is mostly RPGs since that's what I love to play. I'll sometimes pick up some games I don't like if I find them cheap enough, then trade them somewhere for something I actually like. My older brother gives me all his 360 games when he's done with them, like Mass Effect and CoD4, and I trade them at Goozex in order to get the RPGs missing from my collection. I try to get special editions every time as long as I have the funds for it as well. I guess my collection is quality over quantity. I could have a much bigger collection if I wanted, but I cringe at the thought of having Barbie games or something like that in my collection. xD

I buy any N^4 game I come across when I have the money, I hope to own all of them.FredGoon

All of them? Do you try to get them complete with their boxes and manuals?

It's not the most advanced site I've been to, but it works well enough for me.

My collection is like that as well, for the most part. A stupid Garfield and Donald Duck game somehow snuck in, and since nobody would trade for such horrible games, I just have them hidden away in a dark corner of my room. :P

I could talk for days about that, but on this site I am non-partisan.

KG -- I have to say that actually the Garfield game was one that caught my eye. I have no Garfield games, but want as many as I can collect -- and I have no respect for Garfield. The founder of this union waflerevolution had quite a few Garfield games that I wanted to buy off of him. I don;t know why, but I like odd games.

So to answer your question about being discerning about what games I buy. I have no inner-arbiter, I buy whatever I can. I respect that you have specialized on your collection though.

[QUOTE="gmsnpr"]Yes. I have zero taste and buy whatever crosses my path. You don't?KenshinGirl

I guess written sarcasm isn't as obvious as I would sometimes like. I, too, prefer quality to quantity. Happily, my collection is both large and full of high-quality titles.

aspro: I actually had several copies of this Garfield game and several other games back when I had a collection of older games. I was always getting huge lots of older games and systems from people that were in a hurry to get rid of them, which meant they were also cheap. Back then, I wasn't as discerning as I am now. Since my old collection was sold off by a certain idiot, my focus is now on newer games, which aren't as easy to obtain as cheaply as the older games I once collected.

gmsnpr: Sorry, I didn't take that as sarcasm since I know some people that will buy anything as long as it's a game. I was looking through your collection and was surprised it was so large, yet not filled with a lot of garbage games like Barbie or Dora the Explorer. I did laugh at your Hello Kitty games though. :P
