Final Fantasy V and the amazing Final Fantasy VI in one package.

User Rating: 8.6 | Final Fantasy Anthology PS
Considering the success of the Ff franchise, one might be forgiven for thinking that FF began in the PS1 era with FFVII. Those that believe that, however, are mistaken. FF began on the NES and then moved onto the SNES. It was here that the two games featured on FF Anthology were originally released. As they are two separate games, they will be reviewed separately. Final Fantasy V is frequently thought of as a FF with a weak story. Though it may not have the scope of others in the genre, it has moments that speak to what the future would hold. While it does not have the strongest story, the graphics improved on previous games by a noticeable margin. The greatest feature of FFV, however, is teh job system. You can customize your character to any class you would like and this freedom is rare in an RPG where most characters have only one role. These jobs follow the traditional abilities of their job classes and will be familiar to all RPG players. The only negative comment against FF is the fact that the plot is standard fare for the fantasy genre. Where Final Fantasy V made a small advancement in graphics, FFVI completely overshadows the previous installment of the series. Everything about it is better than FFV. The graphics were among the very best of the 16-Bit era and the story rivals only FFVII as one of the best RPGs of all time. This FF emphasized a number of side quests that not only increase the power of your characters by giving them new items, but these side quests also help flesh out the story and give you the backgrounds of each character. From Terra to Sabin to Cyan to Locke, each character fully evolves by stories end. VI also includes a number of secret characters who you can get to join your quest. Kefka is a madman who intends unleash Espers onto the world and it is up to your party to stop him. Plot twists crop up that lead you down new paths and new sites to explore ranging from a tower of magic to a memorable opera scene. In your order to learn magic, you must equip magicite to gain many abilities for each of your characters. Many familiar spells are available for you to create a well-balanced or specialized party. There really cannot be anything to fault against FFVI. Great graphics, great story and great gameplay...in other words, a great buy.
