Just because a game is "original", that doesn't make it fun to play.
The game has been reviewed very well and critics seem to love the originality of the title. And the game does have an interesting visual style, which most people seem to be a big fan of. The audio is also interesting as it changes depending what you are doing on-screen. But my main problem is with the gameplay.
The controls feel sluggish and unresponsive at times. To score points, you have to shoot enemies and pick up little squares that they leave behind. The problem with this is that the game tends to be real picky about how close you get to each square to be able to pick it up. And if you don't get to them in time, they disappear. And speaking of those little squares......your 'ship', or whatever your character is supposed to be, looks exactly like the squares you pick up to gain points. When the game gets very chaotic, it becomes a mess of enemies flying around, you shooting, and little squares everywhere. And since your character looks exactly like those squares, it becomes harder to keep track of what's going on.
There are also no upgrades to speak of. There is nothing to do here, except fly this little, simple square around, shoot basic looking enemies, and hope to pick up as many little squares as possible to raise your score. I am a fan of dual-stick shooters, but this one is just too bland and annoying for me. To be very blunt, 'Everyday Shooter' is an overrated game. Critics tend to love these independent games that offer originality. I also like games that fit that description, but I also want to have fun while I play the game. While it is impressive that this game was made by one man, that doesn't give it a pass on the gameplay issues.
