What a RUSH! I have yet to find a game that is such an adrenaline rush. Its not the GREATEST game in the world, as it lacks severly in story, but in respect to that it has the mario idea that if you can get some catchy gameplay it will live forever. The game begins with Dante (go figure), the hero, in a giagantic mansion falling into ruin which you quickly come to find is SWARMING with demons from the Netherworld. As the half-demon dante you must fight your way through countless enemies and make your way to fight their leader. From the get-go your outnumbered about 2000 to 1 and all you've got going for you is a Sword your (deceased) father left you, your two custom pistols - Ebony and Ivory and your demonic powers. That almost evens out the odds and if you get good at it, you might actually beable to beat those odds which continually increase as you go up in difficulty until you reach "Dante Must Die mode". All this comes together to form a very intense atmosphere in which you must jump, twist, run, fly, shoot, hack and slash your way through to the gallows of the Underworld. Why? For revenge mostly. Course to me it seems kind of nuts taking on the whole Underworld because you want to get revenge on one person. The game is very strait forward (though they're hidden things all around) and the story consists of bad-alack trash talk culminating with the final boss Mundus. This isn't a game for those seeking story because there really isn't one. For about 8 strait levels (of 23) there is NO story. In a way this may even add to the game by not breaking up the action with cutscenes. The game really shoes its colors when you play "Dante Must Die". The controller becomes glued to your hands for fear of breaking the adrenaline rush and losing even the slightest bit of edge. Even if your a casual gamer that can't defeat this mode its still worth giving it a shot just for kicks. It is recommended that you start from the easiest mode to gain all the power-ups you can and earn as many S-rankings as possible. Each play through after that will be easier due to that. Its a game atleast worth renting - unfortunately it wasn't a well known release and didn't recieve great sales, as a result many rental stores don't carry it and your best bet is USED online somewhere. Despite this I haven't heard any review less then spectacular about this game.
