Director Mike Ybarra also says that Microsoft is hoping to achieve as little latency as possible.

Microsoft's just-announced Xbox One-to-PC game streaming service is targeting to run at full 1080p resolution and 60 frames-per-second. Partner director Mike Ybarra said today during a group interview attended by GameSpot that the service is running at 720p/30fps right now in the testing labs, but Microsoft expects this to improve to full HD by the time it launches publicly later this year.

Achieving maximum graphical output will, as you might expect, depend on bandwidth speeds in your home. "It will really largely depend on the scenario to which someone is trying to play," Ybarra said. "But we want to make sure that we can get the optimal experience."

Microsoft's game-streaming service will allow gamers to stream their Xbox One titles to Windows 10 devices in their home over a Wi-Fi connection.

Ybarra also addressed the issue of latency. Without making any specific promises, Ybarra said, "Certainly our goal is to be as low-latency as possible."

I see this being useful for, Those who have Xbox Ones in the living room, If someone is watching TV, You can just continue playing your games, via streaming on your PC, in the other room.

So basically... they failed hard with the console as far as technical specs go and now are trying to rectify it by making your PC do the work... good job MS good job, silly stuff like this is why you lost so many customers prior to the XB1's launch.

Just make sure the streaming isn't compressed all to hell and isn't laggy, that's all I ask for. Steam streaming is excellent... however streaming from my PS4 to the PS TV is God awful, yet it's OK when streaming from a PS4 to a Vita - even though the Vita and the PS TV are supposed to be the same hardware.

The point is if the stream is 900p, but is rock solid, that is much more important than 1080p but choppy. People need to get past the 1080p as being a number - nothing you watch on network or cable TV is broadcast in 1080p, at best its 1080i, but most everything is 720p - yet people buy 4K TVs to watch that 720p National Championship Game.

Pure pixel count is not what is important, its what you do with those pixels.

Praise be Allah.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> First, the Vita isn't even 720p. While the PS TV can be configured at 480, you can also select higher resolutions. While the resolution you're selecting is for the interface, the streaming resolution is equal to or better than the Vita. I know that the picture of the Vita made larger will obviously decrease the image quality because of the resolution, however it's not a resolution issue, its a compression issue. The image is noisy a blocky. Finally the issue of lag is of the biggest concern, the Vita rarely gets much lag, but the PS TV is pretty awful about it.

Again internally its the same hardware so it doesn't make much sense on why the PS TV experience is so much worse. As I said, hopefully its just a firmware fix.

Well, there is also the viewing distance and pixel density factor. At 220ppi, being anwhere from inches to feet from our eyes, the vita can often look sharper than what is bieng streamed to the standard 40" 1080p tv (at 720p)... but then again, even retina displays on phones aren't hd either (which is a technicalty due to the standardization of the label requiring at least the y resolution to have 720 lines.)

The reality is that the vitas native display is 1/4 full hd (1080p).

Higher ppi vs lower, scaling issue in firmware version?

<< LINK REMOVED >> The resolution isn't the big issue, if they could do a rock steady 1280x720 picture that would be great, but even if it was lower than that it would be OK if it was a clean non-noisy picture. They can hopefully cleanup the picture with better firmware - as I said the Vita doesn't have those issues - and its not resolution related, it seems like the PS TV isn't pulling down data at the same rate and thus compressing the image more.

This is what I'm most interested in to be quite honest. If this happens, then this means I can finally move my X1 to the living room for my family to use and I can still play on my computer (which is where I usually play games anyway) with a win-win. Let's see how well this service ends up being in practice. I was pretty impressed with the Vita remote play, the Wii U Gamepad works great (though that's directly to the console). Here's hoping they pull this off!

<< LINK REMOVED >> The Vita can also be run with a direct wifi connection to the console. In fact, it's my preferred method for running PS4 remote play to the Vita. If I use my home wifi, instead of the direct wifi connection, the stream to the Vita suffers greatly whenever my gf is streaming Netflix/Amazon/whatever. With the direct wifi, it runs like a dream no matter what.

I know there's probably been 600 comments before that's already said it, but how the fcuk are you going to manage 1080p 60fps streaming when you can't manage that now directly on the console

Does anyone remember back when Microsoft first announced the Xbox one? They took a lot of heat for talking about the console's capabilities instead of the games. Sony jumped on this and made a big deal about how Microsoft had lost touch with it's audience. Looking back I see it differently now. They spent a lot of time talking about how many dedicated servers they had and about how much time they spent trying to reduce latency at every level including the controller. They said that they increased the bandwidth of their wireless protocol by 20 times what the Xbox 360 had and that is was faster than wifi or bluetooth. Even their choice of memory, which Sony has pointed out several times, while having less bandwidth actually has a lower latency.

All of these things are now starting to look very important for the future a gaming and seeing an article like this about game streaming just shows how important the infrastructure is.

Why are people comparing this to PS Now? They are not even close to the same thing. This is just Xbox Remote Play to a Windows 10 device and it sounds like it is only locally. Not bashing it and that's good they giving Xbox owners more flexibility, but this is something that PS4 has had since launch to the Vita and the Playstation TV except you can take the Vita or PSTV and remote play over the internet as well. Plus they are easier to transport than PC, laptop, or tablet. Just went to a cabin in the mountains with only a 3MB connection and it worked quite well. Yeah, there was lag and couldn't play a FPS, but was still able to play several other games where lag wasn't an issue.

Guys I am using remote play on my Android and it works just fine you don't need an experia or Vita. Your phone doesn't even need to be rooted . I am not a fanboy as I like the Xbox as I used to own the first two generations but this time around I think Sony has got it right

Why steam? Why buy a massively underpowered console to play games on your PC? Halo and Gears of War are the only IP's that won't come to PC. Every other game on Xbox worth taking about will come to the PC platform.

Just buy a mid-range/high end graphics card. Is this Microsoft way of trying to justify Xbox Ones hardware deficiencies by trying to outperform the PS4 with this useless gimmick?

If you love gaming. Buy a PC.

<< LINK REMOVED >> So that you don't have to buy seperate components for the PC. You get to use the PC while playing the consoles games too, which means that you can do what you would ussaly do on PC, but with the extra games. Yup, Halo and GOW won't come to PC, but you can stream them. Every other game on Xbox will come to PC, except with the Price tag.

The PS4 will probably fall behind as it is. Yes it has sales, but that makes no difference for the console. They just have to hope that OpenGL/ES stays upto date and in the game, otherwise, bye bye PS4.

If not for (not all that great) exclusives, why would I want to stream a game with lower resolution, lower textues and 30 fps to my PC? The stream may be 1080p and 60fps, but the source is what the console can handle and it usually can't handle 1080p with 60fps.

I mean, this kind of gimmick only attracts people that are very aware of hardware and stuff and they already have a PC able to run games better than XOne (which is neither that expensive or hard)...

No point in this other than to look cool in front news saying that MS cares about gaming on PC.

Wanna show how much you care? Make your Xbox exclusives PC exclusives too.
