HBO had already signaled that The Last of Us will return in 2025, but now it's 100% confirmed. The newest Max sizzle reel specifically stated that Season 2 of the hit show will arrive in 2025.

In May, HBO said Season 2 was penciled in for release in 2025, but that window was assigned to the show prior to the onset of the strikes. Some believed the sophomore season could slip to sometime later, but thankfully for fans, that is not the case. More recently, HBO boss Casey Bloys said in November that Season 2 was being eyed for release in 2025.

Production on The Last of Us Season 2 is set to begin in February 2024 in Canada. The second season is expected to adapt events of The Last of Us: Part II, which means Abby will show up. Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, recently discussed how she had a "big fear" that Season 2 wouldn't be able to live up to the highly acclaimed Season 1.

The Last of Us TV show, which is based on the Naughty Dog game series, debuted in January 2023 and became a quick success. It didn't take long for HBO to greenlight a second season. The Hollywood writer and actor strikes, however, put a wrench in the works. Those strikes are now over and Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann can get rolling with their plans for Season 2.

Another major HBO show set to return is House of the Dragon. Its own second season is set to debut in Summer 2024. That show did not suspend production during the Hollywood strikes and stayed on schedule.

As for the Last of Us game series, Naughty Dog's The Last of Us multiplayer game has been put "on ice," according to a report. Naughty Dog has also talked about the possibility of making The Last of Us: Part III, but the game has not yet been announced.
