HBO's The Last of Us is coming back for a second season, and now we know when production will begin. Showrunner Craig Mazin said during a panel this week that filming begins February 12, according to Variety. [A previous version of this story said production would begin in January, which was based on a production schedule that was seemingly not correct or not up-to-date]

This start-date is no surprise. After all, HBO boss Casey Bloys said Season 2 would begin filming in early 2024. As for when The Last of Us Season 2 might debut, it's not expected to arrive until 2025 at the soonest, so fans should get comfortable.

The Last of Us TV show, which is based on the Naughty Dog game series, debuted in January 2023 and became a quick success. It didn't take long for HBO to greenlight a second season. The Hollywood writer and actor strikes, however, put a wrench in the works. Those strikes are now over and Craig Mazine and Neil Druckmann can get rolling with their plans for Season 2.

Another major HBO show set to return is House of the Dragon. Its own second season is set to debut in Summer 2024. That show did not suspend production during the Hollywood strikes and stayed on schedule.

As for the Last of Us game series, Naughty Dog's The Last of Us multiplayer game has been put "on ice," according to a report. Naughty Dog has also talked about the possibility of making The Last of Us: Part III, but the game has not yet been announced.
