PlayStation VR Demo Disc Has 18 Games in North America

Every PlayStation VR will include the free demo disc.

Last week, we reported on what Sony has planned for the PlayStation VR demo disc in Europe, and now we have information on the North American version. It will include 18 different games to demo, including Resident Evil 7's Kitchen teaser, Eve: Valkyrie, and Rez Infinite.

Sony releasing a demo disc with the PlayStation VR is a good idea, as players will be able to see if they can handle certain games without getting motion sick. The free demo disc comes with every unit, whether you buy it on its own or in the launch bundle with the camera and Move controllers. You can see a full list of all the games and experiences at the bottom of this article.

If I owned a PS4, I might get PlayStation VR just to play Battlezone. If you like retro games at all, definitely check out some footage of it! My only concern with Playstation VR at this point is how much space it takes up just to work properly-it looks like a whole room!

I think its a real shame that some of the games are exclusive to PSVR, otherwise I'd be more interested in adopting VR, but not on that weak ass hardware. I'd be going way of Omni with GTX1080 SLI via Oculus/Vive. None of the VR games should be exclusives IMO since it's already severely lacking in good games, which is the main reason im not interested yet.

So, PS4Pro+PSVR+Move+Cam will be around $700 in holiday discount package?

@r31ya: That will actually be a realistic price next holiday season. It would make sense to offer that kind of bundle to counter Scorpio - which is supposed to run an Oculus Rift.

@anders2037: ...there's an actual, physical PlayStation demo disc, for VR, and it contains less stuff in Europe than in America... When did it become 1997 again?

having a demo disk makes it much easier to install and not have to worry about internet connection to download the game.

HTC Vive is getting Fallout 4 VR, so I think I'll save my money for the headset that will have actual AAA open-world games.

Never once inserted a disc into my 3 year old PS4.

This demo disc will be the first.

Demo discs are great, or at least they were; I think it is a huge missed oportunity nowadays more than ever, they could be preinstalled in the device; That way you could get the chance to play a game and be pleasantly surprised with something that you weren't interested even in the slightest.

@adsparky: "preinstalled in the device"

Then people will bitch about PSVR/PS4 having bloatware in it.

My biggest worry about jumping onto PSVR is that there will be a PSVR 2.0 in 2 years.

@whatsazerg: True I know that fear...but also look at it on a slightly optimistic side (which us gamers rarely seldom seem to do nowadays lol) cynicism runs deep lol...but look on the bright side, if theres new versions of PSVR...atleast we know its worth investing in, year after year as its quality increases, price reduces, and more IP/software becomes available, new engines to optimize gameplay, new lens, etc, etc and one day VR gaming can now finally legitametly (butchered always hated spelling that word lol - anyway.....can now finally legitly consider VR as a the 4th field of gaming....now its on the panel, official not just a passing fad, ...handheld+mobile and then console and then PC and those were/are/have been the main genres/fields of gaming..platforms to play on...now a 4th type...this VR...while not a new idea, its been made useful this time, and with a lasting appeal...maybe alot of kinks will need to be worked out, but as you get older like I do you look at it - in the big picture view...is this/or can it become a long lasting legit mainstream product with lasting appeal....I think VR has a chance....just enough...too expensive, to "new" to kink/bug-infested...though the devices that have been released so far have been given overall general favorable review...if not perfect they have something of value. I hope so, I'd like to have a new platform to game on, and a combination of...idk mobile/console TV in a VR machine sounds cool...I just hear (every review, every product, with VR I always hear its for short term gaming for alot of players the way it works on your eyes...every VR device ...vertigo IDK what you wanna call it but its only for short play styles...so maybe that will be worked out/ironed out over the years, change in frame-rate/judder/response time or whatever it is that is hard on the eyes, or the fact the screen is so close to your face...downright attached lol....so I've already used VR several times so I'm not just shooting in the dark...again still too expensive for me, but I do have a somewhat hopeful future for VR gaming, and if anything is a saving grace for sony THIS year after the recent bluster (though I'm still excited for PS4 PRo even if X One S is a better value) still I think PSVR may come to the fore front...if sony can get a hold on its HANDHELD market, adjust/update put out a newer, better handheld (IE get back into market w/ a splash, bring some life to the dead VITA (despite having a small community and some dedicated players, and a few good games its a dead in the water system and I really dont even blame the system itself...marketing, game contracts, whatever it is......SONY has a gem with PSVR + Handheld/Vita franchise

maybe something in the future, not just nintendo NX, and the upcoming scorpio in late 2017...and the soon to be PS4 pro - release, but maybe a new handheld from SONY next year or so

I'm so glad they are doing this. I miss demos - and they sell games! They really do (unless of course your game stinks...)

It would be great if all game devices came with loaded demo disks as the norm. I think I would prefer a disk with 20 game demos on it instead of one or two full regular games be included when i buy something new.

Slightly unrelated question:

Does PSVR have a locked frame rate? Does any VR? Or does it vary like everything else?

@olddadgamer: Sony is being very strict with framerate.... it has to be a minimum of 30fps with no drops.... or so we've been told. Thats 30 per eye... so the console has to be able to handle the game at 60fps... which is why some games will be lower resolution than normal. Expect games that would normally look very good to suddenly have a lot of jaggies. Resident Evil 7 for example.

@whatsazerg: "Thats 30 per eye... so the console has to be able to handle the game at 60fps" That's not how it works, framerate doesn't add up like two parts of a puzzle.

@game_spock: If they alternate every half second then together they'd be 60.. Isn't that what the res is doing? 60fps per eye makes more sense though... and somehow they're making it up to 120.

@whatsazerg: ill take Jaggies. Thing is, I have epilepsy. Some frequencies are ok, some, well, aren't. And I have this worry that I'll be playing happily, all good, then the rate will drop to something else and boom.

I really want to try vr but not to risk that. If the frame rate is locked to something ok, I'm good.

Typical! Once again Sony manage to shaft European customers. Why can't they treat us as equals?. At least it's only a demo disc I suppose, but still it would have been nice to try a few more games.

I want to be interested in VR but it definitely seems like its a bit too soon to invest. There doesnt seem to be any 'games' for it. Its more or less a compilation of tech demos just to show off what it can do.

@uncha1n3d: Star Trek Bridge Crew and the Star Wars X-wing mission look amazing, even if the X-wing mission is likely to be very short.

@uncha1n3d: Do your research. Looks like plenty of good games will be available on day one, (batman VR, Until Dawn, Eve:Valkyrie, Loading Human, etc).
