Every PS5 Game Confirmed (And Expected) So Far

Sony's next-generation console is launching this year, here's all the PlayStation 5 games you can play.

It's always exciting every time a new console generation comes around, and this time is no different. This year marks the release of both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and despite the ongoing pandemic disrupting workflow, the two systems are still set for release during the holiday season of 2020. That means there will also need to be a lineup of new games, as some of Sony's major upcoming games are still coming to the PS4 and could skip the PS5, at least at launch, and it's unclear if they're getting PS5 upgrades at all. Sony said in May that it plans to announce the launch lineup for PS5 "soon." Currently, it's still unclear which games will launch alongside Sony's next-generation console this holiday. However, we do know how the console will look. There will actually be two consoles that differ only in whether or not they include a disc drive. You should be able to play the exact same software on both--but any PS4 discs you have won't work on the all-digital version.

As a whole, Sony's PS5 features some exciting new technology, including an SSD that dramatically improves load times, among other elements that promise to improve the fidelity of games. There is also a new DualSense controller that uses haptic feedback to help connect you with games at a deeper level. It's all very exciting, and some of the technology is even beyond what high-end PC systems can do. The technology is being backed up with impressive software, including Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5. This new engine was demonstrated in May 2020 and features new lighting and geometry systems that can make games look more realistic than ever before.

Now Playing: How To Get The Best TV For PS5 And Xbox Series X, Gamescom 2020 Breakdown | Generation Next

In this post we're rounding up all the confirmed PlayStation 5 games, and also denoting the titles that we think, or are assumed to, release on the next-generation system. This list covers the new games that will be released on PlayStation 5. The console will automatically play the "overwhelming majority" the PS4 games you may already own, since it is backward compatible with that console. However, new first-party PS5 games are going to be exclusive to the system rather than get a cross-generational release so as to make full use of the new hardware. This is the case with newly-announced games like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, which makes use of the system's super-fast SSD to almost instantly teleport into new worlds. More third-party games from companies like EA and Activision will likely come out over time, as well. These will almost certainly include major franchises such as Madden and Call of Duty, and we got our first taste of some of EA's projects during its June EA Play event.

If you're curious about what Microsoft has to offer on its end of the next-generation console race, then be sure to check out our Xbox Series X game roundup after you're done with the PS5 list below.

You can check out all of the confirmed, and presumed, PS5 titles below. We'll continue to update this post in the days, weeks, and months ahead as new and more titles get announced.

It brings back familiar faces such as Mason, Woods, and Hudson for a globe-trotting story that's set in the 1980s with certain parts going back to 1968 during the Vietnam War. It's a direct sequel to the original Black Ops, and the setup has Soviet Russia and the United States amid tensions of nuclear war playing dangerous spy games with each other through covert ops, which is what you'll be taking part in.

The series's classic multiplayer is also returning with cross generational play and cross progression support. However, little else is known at the moment about what we can expect. A stream detailing more about multiplayer is scheduled for early September, so we should be able to learn more sooner than later.

It makes sense that Bethesda would return to one of its best-known and most-acclaimed franchises with new consoles coming soon. After all, The Elder Scrolls V has sold a whopping 30 million copies--across nearly every platform under the sun--making it one of the most successful single video games in history. Like Starfield, Bethesda hasn't said if The Elder Scrolls VI will come to next-generation consoles, but that seems like a sure thing.

Release Date: TBA (but confirmed to be after Bethesda Game Studios' other new game, Starfield)

Warframe

The immensely popular free-to-play shooter Warframe, which was originally released in 2013, is coming to next-generation consoles. Parent publisher Leyou announced the next-gen version during an earnings event where it stated that bringing the title to new systems should help the game grow even bigger still.

Release Date For PS5: TBA

I'm not really impressed by any of these games, but I'm definitely buying a PS5. All my favorite console titles of this gen were PS4, and I consider Xbox exclusives adolescent crap. But, I'm not poor and if Xbox has something beyond Halo and Gears that is actually thoughtful and original, I will buy that machine.

@dmblum1799: Or just use that money to get a decent PC, get Game Pass and then you'll have access to those key Xbox games for just $1. That way you not only have access to the entire Xbox line-up, but you also have access to the PC catalog. There is no need to buy an Xbox.

@Barighm:

The same will soon be true of playstation when more and more of their games come to pc. Horizon Zero Dawn is just the start. Plus there’s ps now. We can already play tons of playstation games on pc.

Will you say the same thing once that happens?

I wonder............lol

So what about the next month when it's NOT a Dollar?

It's not a no brainer. I barely use the PC game pass over Xbox even though I have it.

Not everyone is master Race & you know this.

@Barighm: Exactly , I'd just use that money and buy a 3080 ti and keep Gamepass along with my PS5. It's more than double the cost up front , but a way better gaming and multi-purpose Investment over 7 years. Games are $60 a pop anyway and most people are at least buying 1 or 2 games at launch plus a year sub to play online , In 2 months they'll have already spent that $600 they thought they saved on accessories and games , on a system that still can't be modified or always hit the highest frames or get absolute best performance. What good Is an Xbox Series X without compelling walled garden exclusives anyway? Are the best deals supposed to trump the best quality? I sure don't want content I don't care for , no matter how cheap or how much I'm getting monthly. I prefer to mostly own physical everything anyway. Microsoft needs to be forced to Invest In the gaming Industry as It (healthily ) works now not encouraged to keep trying to change It's future In favor of their best Interests imo. They bought some studios so we'll see If they present some real Incentive to buy an Xbox Series X at launch. One thing Is for sure , Sony will have exclusives from reliably praised franchises and new IP.

So far XseX has the better launch line up easily.

Along with Xbox Game Pass, Xcloud and XseX excellent back compatibility features the XseX is a no brainer.

I don’t need to buy an extra controller for my kid as X1 controllers will work just fine.

The XseX is easily the best choice.

@gamerbum: "so far" doesn't mean they won't announce them. Most people prefer not to rent games and most people keep gamepass for 1-3 months until they finish what they want to finish Then re-sub some time later when more games are released. PS is the console market leader and can sell ps5 just on sequels alone from this gen let alone new IP's. MS purchased new studios which is a good start now it will take time to build some good franchises. PS has already been doing streaming so x cloud is nothing new. PS5 will have BC.

People will continue to purchase ps5 out the gate, people already know the awesome games are coming like every generation. Xbox needs to build a good lineup which is why I'm waiting atleast 2 years. And you don't even need xsx to play 1st party games for the first 2 years, I can play them on my oneX just fine.

@gamerbum: No, a PC is easily the best choice for playing Xbox games.

And I have no idea how anyone can consider the Xbox line-up to be better. All of the games have been confirmed to be GaaS'y save for one. GaaS'y games always put revenue generation over quality, if not at first, they will eventually.

@Barighm: A very expensive PC and 97% of all games are multipart so the best place to play the vast majority of PS5 games is on a much more expense PC set up also why do you not also point that out?

Also why are options bad again?

Mate you do realise that sony are going to bring more and more of there games to pc right? HZD is just the start. Then there’s ps now. You can already play ps games on pc.

Also you do realise that the XseX beats the majority of people’s PCs out there right now yeah? It might not last very long but it’s a very powerful system. And remember not everyone can be bothered spending thousands on a pc and have to worry about drivers and all that BS that comes with a pc.

I just want to put a disc in or download a game and start playing and consoles are the best for that.

@gamerbum: they already confirmed to mostly focus on one platform. They want to bring PC gamers to PlayStation so HZD was just to show them some of the quality that's available on PlayStation. But with ps5, PC would actually hold back 1st party games unless PC makes a similar io tech system similar or better than ps5. I would actually be happy with a PlayStation launcher on my PC though.

@Barighm: lol we're talking about consoles, from those of us on consoles, myself on xbox, I can say you'll never convince me to switch to a PC, even if you bought the rig yourself, both systems have exculsives, to say Sony has the better games is easily argued against, if you like the same old Japanese fighting style type games then go for it, to me the majority of those are lame and nothing new. I would take a game like SOT, State Of Decay, Dead Rising, Halo, Gears etc over those anytime, but hey to each his own, then there is the added fact that the majority of third party titles are on both.

@bababooey12: PS4 just had more higher rated games. And just going by the last 6 months into June, concrete genie, dreams, MLB, FF7, Nioh 2, tlou2, ghost of Tsushima just kind of goes against your Japanese game misconception. and just shows there's more quality to choose from. For the passed 5 years the amount of Xbox releases is just a fraction of what PS4 released. I had no issues with some of the games on Xbox but we just needed alot more. This gen kind of had me burnt and makes me wait around 2 years to see where xsx stands at with games lineup. I have less worries though because they have more studios but I would like to see the direction they go with them.

@pcps4xb: majority of the games are released on both systems, lol you name a few games doesn't help your case, MLB aside the majority of the exclusives are still that same fighting japense style type single player games, like FF(I think is boring), I'll say this The Ghost Of Tsushuma looks promising from the trailer I saw, however most likely it will be single player, so there goes my interest. That is a big factor in my reasoning for not like Sony, again most of their exclusives are single player, their sports and fighting games I find boring like MLB, so to me most of the games I would play on Sony, I'd play on Xbox as well, now if Sony can include some multiplayer with their exclusives then it might be different, but yes microsoft has a good chunk more studios this time around and there have been a few Playstation exclusives that are now on Microsoft too like Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid, No Man's Sky etc...more the reason staying on Xbox is fine by me.

@bababooey12: there's nothing really on Xbox that competes with 3rd party MP games. I think that's why Xbox games can't seem to find their identity. Being on PS4 gives you some of the best SP games and the best MP games which are multiplatform. And I only mentioned exclusives because that's what you brought up and your Japanese misconception doesn't hold so well.

Most are old shit already available, games that will be out by 2030 or some generic zombie shooter that looks like it was made with a $100 budget. Lets just say it ain't looking great right now.

There's a problem with gaming devs who only work on 1 game at a time.

Bloodborne was over 5 years ago.

yeah no one believes sony. I can't wait until sony proves them wrong. as you see above. they don't understand that the standard ssd only runs 2x faster than hdd even though the ssd says 10x because of the bottlenecks. but in the end we will have a system with 100x the speed of a hdd. not 2x. its not the ssd its what is around it that makes it so good.

@gifford38: Ah...so the article simply doesn't cover what is new. Because the way it was written made it sound like solid states are a "new technology" - which sounded a bit strange.

Either way I always have a console and a PC so I am excited - but I usually wait a bit for the next gen consoles to flesh out a bit.

XseX day one for me. The XseX is going to have hundreds of games at launch thousands in fact. Most of them if not all of them will look and perform better than on X1. The new quality of life console features plus all these games is reason enough for me.

Then there’s Halo. It’s a no brainer.

XseX is the new most powerful console in the world.

CAN NOT WAIT.

Halo 4 +5 weren't exactly good or even avg games.

I couldn't even finish Halo 5 after two separate attempts and

the MP was overly MEH..

The problem is 343 studios for sure & not the Halo ip.

*The current leadership @ Xbox is too greedy or incompetent or

something.. Too many exclsuives are bland and feel like bare bones..

~I will say the Master Chief Collection was fun.

about 4-5 yeasr ago..

I enjoyed the confetti headShots..

Wish they would give Halo to Obsidian..

@sippio: Personally I thought H4 had a great campaign and lame multiplayer but H5 went the opposite and had some of the best multiplayer and a lame campaign made worse by the cool but misleading marketing and by doing the one thing we all knew they were going to do and everyone told them not to do with Cortana.

343 just need to work out how to do both at the same time, although I feel they are just trying to take it in an entirely new direction now given everyones complaints about it being very samey every generation (ironic when people are still flooding to their 13th or whatever they are up to CoD title).

ps5 will have AAA ps4 games. you guys will have the same stuff as your last gen console with only a two games just on the seres x. in fact most of there games coming out you can get on your last gen system. only so far you can bump up graphics from last gen game. while the ps5 games will be just ps5 exclusives. no ps4/ps5 games unless its third party.

@gifford38:

Currently I’d say Xbox has the best line up of new games going into this new gen. Then we have thousands of BC games all playing with better resolutions better framerates and perhaps even added HDR.

The XseX can had HDR to games that didn’t originally ship with the feature. That’s awesome.

Then there’s Gamepass.

To me there’s no debate. Xbox has the best offerings.

Plus the XseX itself outperforms ps5 and by quite a bit.

But hey it’s about the games and we all have our favourites mine just happen to be Xbox exclusives.

nice crystal ball you have there. so tell me what are the ps5 launch titles? how is microsoft going to compete with a exclusive silent hill game at launch? your new line up of games will be for the console you already have as well. your hdd from last gen will hold the series x games back. as you can see with third party cross gen games we always have at launch. horizon zero dawn 2 will get the spot light as well because its made from the ground up just for ps5. no ps4 holding them back.

@gamerbum: Too bad Xbox has lost on ALL past Gen systems in terms of Units sold world wide.

Xbox doesn't give out their sale #'s anymore because there so far behind PS4 it's not funny.

you and xbox users keep telling yourselves stuff that makes you sleep at night. In the end PlayStation Will win Again.

Its has been and always will be about the Exclusive Games.

Hey you know when I was sitting playing the best console versions of games the last few years on my X1X, I was thinking this is great and all but it would really increase my enjoyment if the hardware I am playing it on was the market leader.

Playstation will win again, yeah you don't have to be able to see the future to see that, but the XSX is way more powerful than the PS5, 97% of all console games are on both XB and PS, and they will look and run better on the more powerful hardware. if you prefer sales numbers over performance, you do you.

It has not always been about exclusives, PS3 had pretty terrible exclusives until TLOU of us. The PS4 launch line up was way inferior to what the X1 had, the PS4 sold more because Xbox shot themselves in the face, and tried to sell a less powerful console for 100 bucks more. Exclusives had nothing to do with it.

The best selling games on Xbox and PS are multiplats.

Nintendo has a home/ portable console and a portable console.

Microsoft has PC and XBOX and has their products and services working as one.

Sony has been trying to create products that work with PS4 or with other services that can be shared but have not been very successful.

PS5 has to sell well or Sony may run into problems.

Microsoft makes the money off the services the company provides Sony.

Game pass has 10+ million accounts.

PS Now has 2+ million accounts.

Sony is not in a very good position.
