Dark Souls 3 Complete Edition Includes All DLC, Out Now

Take a look at the launch trailer for Dark Souls 3: The Fire Fades Edition.

58 Comments

With the launch of Dark Souls III's final expansion, The Ringed City, last month, the complete game is now out in the wild. While no more content will come for the threequel, publisher Bandai Namco has released a new version that includes all previously released DLC. Dark Souls III: The Fire Fades Edition is out now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and you can take a look at the launch trailer above.

The collection contains the base game in addition to all the season pass content--so the Ashes of Ariandel and Ringed City expansions are included in the US $50 / £40 / AU $90 price tag. The Fire Fades Edition is available both physically and digitally in the UK and Australia, though it is unclear if the PC version is coming to the US. PC players can, however, purchase the previously released Dark Souls III Deluxe Edition, which includes the base game and the season pass for $85.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Dark Souls 3 Complete Edition Revealed

In our Ashes of Ariendel review, critic Miguel Concepcion said the expansion "is ultimately a safe addition to Dark Souls III," but he did call it a "fitting extension" with an "impressive final boss." Our Ringed City review, meanwhile, called what could be the final chapter in the Dark Souls story "a worthy conclusion to a storied franchise."

In other Dark Souls news, publisher Bandai Namco recently teased a new game using a tagline very similar to one repeatedly used with the Souls franchise. The new title was later revealed to be a vampire-themed RPG that has no apparent connection to Dark Souls.

One of the games I’ve been meaning to get my hands on (shakes fist at backlog.).

Seems like holding off on purchasing a game day 1 is becoming more of a smart move now a days than it used to be. Its true one misses out on all the “excitement” and “buzz” surrounding a game when it first drops but in a way it more than makes up for it when you consider all the extra DLC acquired in these various GOTY/Complete edition releases.

Who says patience doesn’t pay off?

@videogameninja: i think it also depends on wether the game has an online component and how important that is to you. It's very exciting (for me) to play a new Souls game around its release, because there's just so much coop and competitive play going on. It's still a great solo game though.

This year though had a lot of interesting releases with re7, Nier, Horizon and the upcoming Prey. And they are all SP, so i might just indeed wait a bit and get them at the end of the year at a reduced price. There's nothing really to miss out on with these games, since they're SP. Even better i might get eventual DLCs included.

@videogameninja: To be fair, these "Complete Edition" releases are probably a way for companies to reach more customers after they've hit a saturation point. If people don't buy the initial release, I'd imagine we wouldn't see the re-release bundled versions.

Waiting is good, as prices for just about all games drop significantly after a year. But somebody needs to go out and buy the game at launch.

@Yomigaeru:

True.

It also acts as incentive for those who perhaps missed out or are still on the fence about a certain title. For others still it can simply just be a means of justifying a purchase.

@videogameninja: I dunno, the fever to buy a game when it's just launched is a lot greater than the fever to buy complete editions. It's the same as with movies I guess, never cared so much for DVD extras but seeing the movie at first chance in theater is unpassable.

If I've survived a year or two without a game, I can survive after that too even if it has 2 hours of extra content.

@PrpleTrtleBuBum:

Can’t argue with that.

It’s not really common to hear someone say…

“I can’t wait for game X to come out so I can hold off until the inevitable Complete edition that will be released X months down the road.”

@videogameninja: For me, it depends on the game. If Dark Souls 4 or Bloodborne 2 came out tomorrow, you can bet I'd be first in line to pick it up. Other games (like the recently released Ghost Recon: Wildlands) I'll happily wait a year for the complete edition to go on sale. I look forward to playing it, but not so much that I need it right now.

@Pyrosa: ds1 would need an entire remaster to be playable on these new consoles. Also everyone has already played the game to death theres honestly no incentives going through all of it again for a20th time.

@gameroutlawzz: If you game on XBOX, Dark Souls can be played on the Xbox One (the Prepare to DIE Edition works too!) and not everyone has played Dark Souls. I started playing Dark Souls when it hit Backwards Compatibility on the XBONE last year, as for the PS4, a Remaster is needed since the PS4 cannot do physical backwards compatibility. and theres also PSN..............
