Borderlands PS4, Xbox One, And PC Remaster Or Re-Release Likely Coming

Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is on its way, according to reports.

It looks like Borderlands could be getting a new lease on life. The RPG shooter first came out in 2009 on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, but now it may be coming to current-gen consoles as well in the form of a Game of the Year edition.

Gematsu reports the Korean Game Ratings Board has rated a title called Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition. While the game hasn't been officially announced, the news indicates a remaster or re-release is coming on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, in South Korea at least. This would mark the first time Borderlands has been re-released, unlike its sequels Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which were remastered in Borderlands: The Handsome Collection in 2015.

Now Playing: Borderlands Is Likely Getting A Remaster For PS4, Xbox One, And PC - GS News Update

In GameSpot's review of Borderlands, Chris Watters gave the game an 8/10 and praised its satisfying gunplay, tons of items and rewards, unique playable characters, and distinct art style in a sci-fi setting. "Though the core action doesn't change drastically over the course of the game, it is woven together in such a way that once it ensnares you, you'll want nothing more than to plunge into Pandora at any chance you get," said Watters.

"Combat is satisfying, and upgrading your skills and equipment is engaging. The constant stream of loot and experience is rewarding, and sharing it with some friends makes the experience that much richer and more exciting."

In other Borderlands news, developer Gearbox says, despite rumors, a game called "Borderlands 3" will not be shown at E3 2018. There have been many hints that another Borderlands sequel is in the works, which leaves the statement up for interpretation and the possibility that the game is simply not called that. Here's everything we know and want from Borderlands 3 at E3 2018.

I played Borderlands on PC last year. Still looks great imo. Doesn't need a remaster.

Gearbox needs to move on to something else. Borderlands has come and gone.

Companies in general need to stop with the remaster bs. How many times do you think someone will buy an "ok" 3rd party game? Usually once.

The only games that should ever get remasters are AAA, highly loved first party games, because they will be done right, or great games that launch at the end of a console generation. The 3rd parties should make their games backwards compatible if they're that proud of them.

It seems both Hollywood and games companies are in the same rut, cant think of something new, remake old stuff.

too late for shoddy remasters. you guys missed the boat and should have ported it in the 2013-2015 window when there were very few games to play. now, people cannot keep up with all the major releases on ps4 and elsewhere. a shoddy remaster of a forgettable game is not going to sell... also, why the hell didn't they include this game with the previous borderlands remaster collection? does gearbox take people for fools or were they scheming all along to double dip? get out of here with this nonsense.

@Xristophoros: Calling the original game forgettable is a stretch. It did very well.

If they did a remaster I would want them to do a remake in order to fix the pacing and make it more like the later games in terms of gameplay. The reason I say this is because when I went to try and play through it again after playing both the others, the original game did not hold up as well to me. It felt slow and sluggish and really grindy in order to progress. While the others felt more like they did better to keep things going at a fast pace despite the grind in tow if you wanted higher ranking guns.

@nabinator: Are you sure you didn't feel like the random gun variety in the first was better? And that certain gun combinations seemed more meaningful and impactful? And that being able to modify class powers with elements added that extra bit of customization to things?

Maybe the games weren't that different, but guns definitely felt more fun to handle in the first game, plus the randomness could really alter how some of the guns would function. In the second game, they fell into specific sub-groupings. Only the legendaries had truly wild effects.

This is pointless. The whole charm behind the aesthetic of the games is its cel-shaded comic book graphics. That's like if someone went through Sin City and made it a color movie.

Go ahead I won't buy it. Gearbox can fucking eat me. After what they did to Aliens Colonial Marines and how they basically STOLE money from it's development to put towards Borderlands 2, then shipped ACM off to a 3rd party being Timegate then not pay them, then blame the fans saying they have too high expectations based on trailers THEY PUT OUT lying about the game. Gearbox and Randy Pitchford can **** right off. I swore to never buy anything from Gearbox again or to ever touch anything that Randy Pitchford's name is associated with ever again, and I have stuck to that promise.

@Daveof89: Borderlands looked a lot better than Jet Set Radio Future, which looked a lot better than Jet Set Radio.

I'm sure they could come up with something. But this being Gearbox they might just be trying to nickle here.

...why? I mean, I love the game more than 2, it's my top favourite for last gen, but...at least the Handsome Jack Collection included TPS and all the DLC much of which was the sort of thing most people would pass on, plus TPS came out shortly before its announcement so it was a great deal. This? If you don't have it by now...well, you just don't care.

...unless they're trying to build a market in Korea, a place known for loving its MMOs, which would mean they're trying to drum up as much business as possible for the region before releasing Borderworlds.

Or just extra money for 3, but I don't believe that. I highly doubt 2K would cheap out on a major franchise just because Gearbox's previous outing was a failure.

They'd have to completely remake the game for me to bother playing it again. The rpg elements really weren't that great. That game was like a test run for Borderlands 2. Now I only hope they'll get rid of the shared loot and the option for other players to mess up your quests for the next game, so the coop actually becomes an option.

If this is true, I think it would be worth no more than $20 at this point.

@jako998: feels like a wallet squeeze in the meantime. Ive bought all the borderlands stuff, most of them more than once, but youre spot on, I want three. Id rather have some real news about three than a remaster - not even like a release date just a morsel hah!

Wow!

Can't believe this game is almost a decade old now! Crazy.

News of a re-master will also help propel renewed interest for another sequel which I for one am almost sure will make an appearance at some point in the future.

With that being said I can't help but feel this generation (more-so than any before.) has become the generation of re-masters/HD remakes. Right out of the gate when the newest hardware was released it already had ports and re-masters, something I don't explicitly remember seeing with the arrival of the PS3 and Xbox360.

That's either a good thing or a bad thing depending on one's outlook but at the very least it does give those who may have missed out on some of those earlier titles a second chance to catch up and see what all the fuss was about.

@sladakrobot: for me as a huge Borderlands fan( I have the 360 versions and PC versions of BL1 & 2). I would be a remaster, IF and that is a BIG IF, they went thru every single map and did a complete make over with new foilage, new shades of textures(most everything was either shades of brown or shades of grey), add true depth to the textures, up close in the current version you can tell all the surfaces of everything rocks, walls etc are completely flat with simple shading, give the creatures complete makeovers, etc. What I expect to happen is they simply port over the PC version with graphics set to high. while it does look considerably better than the 360/PS3 version, it would not be worth a purchase. But A full re-envisioning of the game as I described. Yeah I would $40 for it. The Armory of General Knox is the best part of the entire series in my opinion simply because of the Loot chests upon beating Knox and getting into the Armory. BL2 should have had something equal to it or better and didn't. That part was quite a let down in 2. But still love both games the prequel is meh.
