SERIOUSLY! This is getting pathetic. Every other click or post I try to make and I see "Bonk!" or "Oops!" after a long load session. It's not just sometimes, either. It's more often than not. And it's getting worse everyday. This has been going on for months and I see absolutely no change. It's as if you guy really don't care about this website it seems. What the heck is the problem?

Emerald_Warrior

Hello Emerald_Warrior,

I definitely understand your frustration and I do want you to know that we take these problems very seriously here in the engineering group. As others have mentioned, we've recently migrated our site from data center to data center, but that's no excuse for the site not performing.

That said, it would be very helpful for you to help us track these oops & bonk pages down, as we're not seeing many at this point in our measurements of our systems. For example, here is a graph below of the number of Oops & Bonk pages in the past 4 weeks as a % of total traffic served on the site:

Oops pages

This is still far too many of you getting served bad pages (0.10% is one in 1000 pages resulting in an error), but it certainly should not be every other page. If you can provide the page you see this on it would be extremely helpful for us as we fight to eliminate these from the site.

Thanks

-Simon

The white page is replaced by Oops now, it goes away after numerous refreshes thoanihimz

Those oops pages are very tricky to track down, but will keep an eye out for that - thanks!

[QUOTE="JodyR"]

I've been notified that this got fixed last week. Let us know how we can replicate the issue and if you have screenshots feel free to share them.

Syphadeus

Hiya Jody - it hasn't been fixed I'm afraid. Today - just now in fact - I've selected most recent and that works fine. Click "page 2" and that worked fine. Then, clicked to go to page 3 and nothing happens. I've linked a screenshot showing Chrome displaying the target link. Notice it says "page 2" even though the link for page 3 is highlighted. Similarly, highlight page 4 and the link is for page 3. Don't know if that's how it's meant to be (if say pg1 is actually pg0) but either way the link doesn't do anything unless the above workaround is used.

Hi Syphadeus, Thanks for reporting this. I'm a developer in the GS team and I'm taking a look at this issue, but unfortunately I haven't been able to reproduce this in Chrome on my mac. When you see this behavior can you do me a favor and open the developer console in chrome (View->Developer->Javascript Console) and let me know if there are any messages in there? thanks! -simon

[QUOTE="michaelP4"]Good to hear but will this be done before 2013? Does it mean the site will be fully integrated with Fuse?zyxe
so very much this ^. i didn't quite notice when fuse was created because it was so disjointed with my usual experience, i don't even know how to get to a regular user's "old school" profile" when i'm in fuse. maybe that's just my fault, but it shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out. oh, wait, i did study rocket science, but i am polish and blonde.... i think they canceled each other out somehow. but, yes, if there is a true rewrite, having these options integrated, and having a bit more control over what fuse looks like and how we surf around in it would be super sweet. everyone is so into social networking that having fuse up and running the way i would think it was intended, to be more like a social networking site (not that i would know since i'm not even on FB), would really 1up the competition ;)

This is great feedback on Fuse.I very much agree that Fuse is not well integrated on GameSpot now - it's not easy to find on the site, and it feels much more like a separate community than an integral part of the GameSpot experience. Even the separate name draws distance between the experiences, and we recognize that we haven't done this well. The next site will focus on making sharing and social interaction a key part of the user experience, and we'll be implementing something very different from the distinct sections of the site we have now.

Unfortunately it is unlikely that we'll be complete the re-write of the site prior to 2013, although hopefully we'll be able to share some previews as we get closer to a re-launch. GameSpot is a very large site and while all want to ship as soon as we can we're very much focused on launching something that's ready.

Thanks again for your feedback - it's incredibly valuable as we work out how the new site will work!

To make it not so glitchy. How much does it cost? I will pay for it. It cannot possibly be that much. Honestly, how much does it cost? Even if it is a couple thousand, I could donate. Only under the circumstance that I get some kind of official title here.

lo_Pine

Hi lo_Pine-

My name is Simon, and I work in the development group working on GameSpot. I hear you on the glitches we have on GameSpot, and am the first to admit we have a number of existing problems. We absolutely want to address the problems on the site to give all our users a more usable, cleaner site, and the good news is we're under way on new development which will eventually replace the existing the site. The good news is that we will address many of the stability issues and produce a better site, but the bad news is this takes time and it will be a while until we can roll this out.

In the meantime any feedback, thoughts, or advice you have for us would be much appreciated! You guys are what make the site great!
