It's that time again. My gaming PC is 4 years old and starting to feel the frame rate pain.

I would appreciate some advice on the general build I want to go for.

PC:

I've been bouncing around the idea of a mini itx build because that's something i haven't done before. But i'm not opposed to just getting a monstrous Coolermaster case and just get the job done.

Monitor:

I've been using the Planar’s PX2611W IPS Panel for a few years. Was expensive but well worth it in my opinion.

I Don't know whether to stick with Planar IPS, buy another one and have 2 going. Or go the 30" monitor route

Budget? Country?

I was on Amazon to see if there were any deals and saw an ad for the preorder that says March 31st. Has this been confirmed yet, because I thought just the other day rumors of were May 31st but was just a placeholder. If not looks pretty legit

I will try the beta because I want a new multiplayer game. Halo is really the only online shooter I have greatly enjoyed and never got tired of and it has no future so I need something new. BF4 is fun but on PC I usually go solo because I dont no anyone that really games heavily on PC and the game is just annoying when it is played that way.

The beta will be the deciding factor if I get it, though at launch is questionable because

1. I am tired of this idea that day one buyers are beta testers.

2. FFX and Dark Souls 2 come out around the same time.

You could get a FX 8350 for your mobo. I am thinking an i7 4770k(could become noticeably better in the future if hyperthreading is taken advantage of) or i5 4670k (as of now in gaming the difference is usually pretty minimal for the extra $100) CPU with probably an Asus Z87-Pro or Gigabyte z87-ud3h. I will update in a sec with Anandtech bench comparisons.

FX 8350 vs x6 1100t

FX 8350 vs i7 4770k

You can compare numerous CPUs on Anandtech and look at reviews for haswell cpus for more comparisons with a quick google search

@coreybg: that mobo is $85 there are plenty of alternatives that have x8/x8 for SLI. However if you are not going higher res multi GPU would an overkill. This will be able to do SLI. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=13-130-637

@coreybg:

I think you should get a GTX 760 anyways, because at 1080p it is pretty awesome and the only reason to need sli is if you decided to get 144hz monitor or 1440p (2gb is not recommended at this res). I highly suggest you don't get a cheap mobo because from what I can tell $100 (intel) and $70 (AMD)can score you x8/x8 to have SLI.

Yeah you're probably right. I was just trying to keep the cost below $1000

I was planning on mainly playing Flight Simulator X on it and I heard that was a very CPU intensive game rather than GPU for good frame rates.

Is this USD? What are you planning to do with this rig other than flight simulator?

Isnt flight simulator x old and recommend a Pentium 4. If this is only for that game you are spending way to much cash

Well I'll probably be playing other pc games on it too.

Yeah FSX is an old game but it's one of those games that just eats up cpu for breakfast, lunch and dinner,

The only thing I guess I can do to cut cost is go for an intel core i5?

I saw the revised what PSU, case, and mobo are you getting?

I messed up a bit. The cpu for revised one is a Intel® Core™ i7-4820K Quad-Core 3.70 GHz 10MB

The motherboard is MSI X79A-GD45 Plus ATX w/ Winki 3, OC Genie II, GbLAN, 3 Gen3 PCIe x16, 4 PCIe x1

PSU is 500 Watts - EVGA 80 PLUS Bronze and the case is Raidmax Viper w/ USB 3.0, Side Window Panel

$1000 PCs for gaming should not have Ivy-Bridge E so go with an i5 4570k and a decent x87 mobo probably asrock extreme4, asus z87 pro, gigabyte z87-ud3h (there are plenty of z87 chipset mobos around $130-160 to choose just find one to your preference). This combo should only be about $400.

So that plus

RAM-$60-80

GPU- $340 GTX 770 probably Asus, EVGA, Gigabyte, or MSI get the cheapest or the one you prefer

HDD- $60-70 probably Seagate Barracuda or WD Blue

PSU-$75 Get a good Seasonic PSU

Case-I had Raidmax before and they are garbage do yourself a favor and buy a quality case around $100 or get at least a cheap corsair 230t (different color options should be available)or 200r, or CM 912 all of these are $60

OS- I highly recommend Windows 8.1 $100

This is at the max $1165.

Save 100$ on the CPU with a 4670k and put that money in a better GPU.

And what would be a better gpu? The GTX 770?

A 650 is really weak. Buy whatever you can afford for the GPU, because it's the most important part of any gaming PC. Also make sure to get a decent PSU.
