I swear, gamers are the biggest babies in the world. I love deep hardcore RPG's just as much of the next guy, but when is it going to get in your brains that Bethesda games aren't about deep gameplay mechanics with steep learning curves, there are plenty of other RPG's that do that. Bethesda games are about exploration and crafting your own stories. Personally, I'm happy they're not wasting time making a whole new engine, and instead focusing on crafting a world worthy of exploring. Even though they haven't developed in a new engine for a long time, they still manage to add in enough improvements and features to make each sequel stand out. There are so many RPGs out there you can play if you want nice animations or deep combat, but there aren't many games out there that have worlds as well crafted and most importantly interacteable, as Bethesda games.

This series as a whole has gotten stale for me. I used to be a huge Forza fan till Forza 4 where it became apparent that Turn 10 where going the CoD route by releasing games every two years that are only add a few new features. People have been asking for night racing and weather, among other things, for five years now, and Turn 10 have always given excuses to why they won't do it. They play it safe with every release, and then they milk their customers for content that should have been in the game in the first place (like all the car packs for Forza 5).

I found the PC controls very unwieldy so I went to the dark side and started using a controller. Its immidiately obvious when you start using a controller the game was designed with that control scheme in mind. However the more abilities I unlock per character the less ideal the controller is so I wouldn't be against switching back to the PC version if they fix them.

Yea, everything from the controls to the UI remind me that the game was designed for a controller. They blatantly lied about giving special attention to the PC community, the controls and the UI are direct port from the console versions. I don't need a ton of submenus, huge ass icons and letterings on the PC. It shouldn't be that hard to design a decent UI, especially since Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 had one.

Well, the whole point of auto-attack is that there shouldn't have to be any feedback from the user, I know I can hold R to keep attacking, but I shouldn't have to, it doesn't add anything to gameplay, and it doesn't let me micromanage my team as well. Seems like a minor gripe, but this plus all the other step-backs, and the controls are just aweful. I'm usually pretty forgiving when it comes to playing games, I can overlook big faults in gameplay as long as the total package is good, but when they mess up something as basic as controls, it just detracts from the whole experience. And for a team as experienced as Bioware, and having just replayed DA:O and DA:2 where the controls were great, having DA:I step back like this is infuriating. Hopefully that patch comes out soon, but knowing EA and how they treat their PC customers, probably not.

Bought this game a couple weeks ago, and just decided to play it and my god the controls are aweful! No auto-attack, no auto-run to loot or combat, tactical view is trash, and the UI is so time consuming to go through. Its damn clear that the controls are just a direct port from the consoles (the huge UI icons, that stupid cursor in tactical view). So is bioware doing anything to fix these garbage console controls, or should I just play it with a controller?

I'm thinking of buying Far Cry 2 (FC2). I was replaying FC1 on my kid's PC. But, she's using it again.

I loved FC2. It's very different from FC1, though. Its a great game IF you stick with it. Took me a long time to learn to like it, but once I did, I couldn't stop playing. Bump up the difficulty, or download the realism mod, and the world beccomes a very dangerous, unperdictable world, unlike most open world games. Everytime I've played through the campaign, the AI always does something to surprise me.

Currently though I'm playing through Dragon Age 2. Not a terrible game, but I'm fifteen hours into it, and there still isn't a coherent story, and getting really tired of these fantasy RPGs. Also, I'm replaying Tiberium Sun. The old CnC games have such personality to them, still as fun as the first day I played them. And I always go back to Skyrim as there is always more to do in that game.

Also, the newer the game the betterr.

Why ?

Because, I've been playing a lot of older games lately, trying to catch up on all the gems I missed. Now, I want something a bit fresher, and more pleasing to the eye. But I won't turn away a good game, regardless of it's age. Besides, getting older games to work can be a pain in the ass sometimes.

Dues Ex, I have just haven't played it, I always thought it was more a shooter than an RPG, should look into it. And Alpha Protocol looks really interesting, especially since I love Obsidians games.

Mount and Blade is still a bit too medievalish to me.

If when you say non-fantasy you mean "contemporary" (i.e. modern) or sci-fi futuristic then Alpha Protocol is pretty fun. It's a flawed game, for sure, but it's basically a spy genre version of Deus Ex and while it's not perfect it does have some really cool ideas (complex NPC influence system, missions that can play out VERY differently depending on your choices throughout the game and how you treat various characters, cool "skill" minigames for hacking/lock picking/etc).

Deus Ex, also, if you like Cyberpunk-style futuristic.

If you don't mind isometric RPGs then a couple obvious choices would also be Wasteland 2 (Kickstarter sequel to the games that inspired the Fallout series) and Shadowrun Returns/Dragonfall (update of a cyberpunk pen and paper RPG). The ealier mentioned games are really more like FPS titles with RPG elements, dialog trees, and branching stories. These last two are full on RPGs with detailed character creation and turn based party combat.

Shadowrun and Wasteland are also both really, really good.

Yea I think I'll definitely look at some isometric RPGs. I remember trying out Baldur's gate, but being put off by its age, and for some reason I've always kept clear of those kind of RPGs since. I think Fallout 1 and 3 are highly regarded as well, no?
