Fallout 4 - I have nothing but heavy criticism

There is no sticky so I might as well create a new thread, especially that I'll probably be the only System Warrior to be this vocal in my disappointment.

I will sum um the root cause of my disappointment in just one line:

THE SAME FUCKING ANCIENT ENGINE WITH THE SAME FUCKING LIMITATIONS

And I don't even have graphics in mind when I refer to the engine.

I've played all of them bar New Vegas. Fallout 1 is my favourite. By the way Trent Reznor has been referenced in Fallout 2. I remember this was a big thing in all paper gaming mags in 1990s, and yet in the era of the Internet, I cannot find a single screenshot documenting this.

Trailer looks cool to me. I'm pumped.

Bethesda already showed they had a superficial understanding of Fallout when they made Fallout 3, why the **** did you think things would change now?

They are making The Bethesda game, but in a wasteland vs a fantasy setting.

I have many reservations due to how awful Fallout 3 was and how Bethesda are not the right developers to handle the series. It really should belong to Obsidian.

What's with all the intolerance mangs? Appropriate response; Salt, you are entitled to your opinion on the subject but I'm looking forward to the game.

@Desmonic: Just looks like somebody modded the original game. Remove the green tint, up the texture resolution, sprinkle some more foliage around, and add some god rays and you got that bottom picture. It's really not a massive upgrade. A lot of current-gen games look far better. GTA V blows it away.

This is what they get for using a clearly outdated engine. I get that they know the engine and it does what it needs to do, but it's going to have all of those same lingering bugs that plagued Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Skryim. We already saw really bad animations (as they clearly don't mo-cap squat) and there isn't a shred of ambient occlusion to make the environment look natural. The lighting also looks pretty simple.

GTA V showed that you can have both modern graphics as well as a massive world. Bethesda is just trying to keep their R&D down and basically cheap out on development. That should worry more people.

I think they'll use the extra power in the console to their advantage.

I am hyped for the game but the trailer didn't impress me. I agree with Wasdie.

@Wasdie: It's a massive upgrade versus the last one :P DA:I, GTA 5 and (obviously) Witcher 3 already look a full gen ahead of it.

As for the bugs I remember reading (though I can't attest for it's veracity) that most of the bugs on the console side were caused by the lack of memory (RAM). Assuming that was indeed the case the increased RAM on current gen should be able to fix most of the old bugs, and in turn also improve the PC version (since they won't have to consider crappy hardware from 2005 anymore).

I'm glad i'm always on the optimistic side :)

Loved the trailer! 3 things i just realised that made me happy:

1. In engine trailer and looks great

2. Current generation only

3. Finally seamless transition between in and out doors in a Bethesda RPG! In many parts of the trailer, i noticed that we can see interiors through windows and vice versa.

People seem to forget that Bethesda RPGs have big and complex worlds, thousands of objects with their own physics that you can manipulate, hundreds of NPCs you can interact with, etc...

If you expect games like this can compete graphically with linear ones, you are up for many disappointments.

I wasn't expecting to be blown away since its a open world game but in all honesty I wasn't even remotely impressed by the visuals.

It literally looks like Fallout 3 with a ENB and foliage mod.

Agreed Salt. I seriously don't get the hype even though I liked fallout 1.

I was hoping for a new engine, but deep down inside, I knew it would be the same engine. Still looking forward to it. Time to go enjoy Fallout 1, 2, 3 and NV before this releases.

Looks very underwhelming, I agree. I think people were expecting graphics at least matching these in year 205-2016.

Well, when inevitably the XBone also fails to play this at 1080p, I will thank you for handing me this ammunition.

Look forward to modding the hell out of it. Everyone else can keep crying about the graphics, since the game will be amazing just like Skyrim.

They don't even have proper multi core support for ESO... That game is ugly as all heck and it chugs.

They are known to be lazy, releasing broken games and using old engines. So there is no hype for me.

The mod support for this is going to be no less extensive than it is/was for Skyrim and New Vegas.

There will be literally thousands of model and texture mods.

Bottom line, I get another open world Bethesda game to sink 200 hours into.

Aye I have to agree Des, the one thing that annoys me about Fallout 3 and NV the graphics look bland as hell, not to mention the character models were god awful. Even if we got a a slight down grade from the graphics in the trailer, I'd still be happy.

Why does everyone think it's the old engine? Could be id tech.

Regardless it doesn't blow my socks off, but looks nice enough. Who expects earth shattering graphics from Bethesda anyway? I'm more concerned with bugs.

I really hope they dont waste half their budget and time on programming to a new game engine... and then get stuck with a smaller world and less content than the previous games. (dont need another FF13)

I hope they stick with what they know, improve on it... and jam the game full of goodies and content.

Frankly, I'm thankful that they're not trying to be Final Fantasy. Some series of games should stick to what they're good at and tell a great story. For gamers that want to play something else, there are literally thousands of developers wishing to give them something else. I don't need a genre-bending RPG/Brawler/puzzler/RTS hybrid full of "innovation" to enjoy the Fallout universe. Some people should really not have an opinion when it comes to videogames. They ruin them.

Being a real pc gamer, I discredited as soon as the phrase "Oblivion with guns" arose.

The diet coke pc gamers, spoke, spoke, spoke, but ultimately like console gamers ran out and bought million of copies regardless, indicating they love shallow console games.

I've never been a fan of Fallout. Because of the setting, and because of the consistent lack of impressive visuals. To me, a good RPG has to be good looking. Well, that isn't actually true, but RPGs that are lackluster like Skyrim and Fallout, really do need the visuals.

@Salt_The_Fries: yeah, when you first see the dog walk.........looks anything but smooth. Then again Bethesdas mo-cap has always been shit. Or lack of...

I agree, using the gamebryo engine for the upteenth time is downright hilarious. But moreso for the fact that it's going to use the same tired base gameplay they've been holding onto since obilvion.

Oh if only I cared.
